I would go with the Winegard Carryout G2. There is a mounting kit to mount it on the motor home and it can also be used as a portable.

Winegard Carryout G2

If you're going to upgrade/change why go with another dish that will be effected by the slightest amount of rain etc, personally I'd go with the Winegard Traveler roof mounted antenna, with it's house sized dish it's less prone to black out due to rain and will pull in a stronger signal even with a little tree interference that a portable can not do.

Three reasons to go with the Carryout over the Traveler.

1. Cost
2. Ability to switch providers with a switch change
3. Ability to reposition dish when parked in trees or other obstruction

I have never experienced rain fade with the Carryout when I wouldn't have with an open dish.

Three reasons to NOT go with the Carryout over the Traveler.
1. Takes up valuable storage space if you full time.
2. Takes much more time to get out and set up and then put away. And then worry about it walking off.
3. If raining, cold, snow outside you can't just stay inside the RV and just push a button to have TV.

Comes down to cost and convenience. Automatic rooftops like Traveler or RF Mougul are about $1500. Automatic carry outs are about half of that. A non auto carry out or a tripod dish setup is about $150. With Direct TV, the latter two will be SD only. If you want HD you need to go with a Slimline dish which is much larger.

"Not reasons" 1, 2 and 3 can be eliminated with Winegard Carryout G2 Roof Mount Kit.

I currently have a Carryout 1518 which I am happy with, but will be getting a Carryout G2 this summer and will mount it on the motor home.

If you're sure you don't want DirecTV HD in the future, the G2 is an excellent choice. It is roof mountable if desired, and also allows you to switch to Dish if you so choose to do so in the future.

However, if you are happy with DirecTV Standard Definition, then don't count out the GM-5000 Answer. It is a portable, semi-automatic, works very well, easy to use, and also has slightly higher signal strength than the smaller domes, and 2/3 the price of a G2. You can also use it for Dish Network in a pinch, by using the Dish 72 satellite, which has "most" (but not all) of the Dish HD channels on one satellite.
