I have never heard of this, but it is likely a mis-guided speculation that everything will be moving to KA and that all KA is spot-beamed. Even if everything does move to KA, a KA beam can be broadcast Nationwide (ConUs). The problem comes with the fact that none of the satellite providers discuss ahead of time what their plans are. The mobile users are then left out there to react to what happens. There would be no reason to move everything to a spot-beam broadcast so I would suspect this to be incorrect, but I never say never.
