SiriusXM

Driving a 2015 ram and the satellite reception trulley sucks i cannot drive down the road without it cutting out at every tree. The other day it will no longer receive a signal 2nd time in a few years, last time it came back a few days later. Do all rams have this poor of a signal, i live in the north and had a portable kit in the last truck and the reception was better but still got lots of cut outs but no where near this bad. While i do have the app on my phone i hate the fact that i have to grab my phone to change channels. I was toying with the idea of getting the BT stand alone unit and hoping it gets a much better signal.

The signal cuts out a few times in our 2017 Ram. But is usually because of buildings or such.

Not a Ram, but had a very similar issue when we bought the vista. Long story short, the antenna cable had a large and relatively heavy plug that connected it to the tuning unit behind the radio. The antenna cable had worked loose over time.

I snugged up the connection and used a zip tie to keep it from working loose again.

May not be identical to your solution, but wondering if you have a similar situation going on,

Could possibly be a issue of loose connection toying with the idea of ordering a new antenna if im going to be in their looking i midaswell replace it at the same time. Also found a old buliten and parts list for relocation of the antenna for better reception but im not into cutting into my roof and then having 2 antennas sitting their with one being a dud.

If this is a relatively new issue, then something is wrong. Most likely a loose connection at the antenna or radio. Our 2020 RAM only loses satellite if blocked by trees.

Sounds like an antenna issue for sure. I've had Sirus using a mini antenna that I slid in the headliner inside the truck and didn't have a reception problem, truck had fiberglass roof. Used the same mini antenna and stuck it to the windshield of my pickup and it worked fine.

What does "in the north" mean specifically? I'm in northern Ohio and it works great. Alaska is supposed to be spotty outside of big cities.

I have a 2020 Ram and the only time it loses reception is when I behind a mountain. And the occasional big building. And I'm in the north (Calgary, Alberta).

Now that I'm on a real computer I can see the OP's profile. They're somewhere in British Columbia. They could be eight degrees of latitude north of me or maybe eighteen degrees north.

Yes northern BC.. When sirius and xm combined years ago the signal up here got bad. Before this their was next to no cut outs and after ya drive by a building or something and you would loose signal. I have had this truck for a few years and it seems like the last year the signal is getting worse. My drive to work is probably 5 min and im lucky to have music for 3m. Debating if i have to pull the headliner and check the connection they i midaswell order a new antenna and just change it while im their. Im streaming off my phone right now but do not like it as i have to fumble with the phone to change chan and we have some cell phone dead spots up here, plus the blue tooth connections seem to have lower volume, where the sat still gets signal..

Install the SiriusXM app on your phone and stream it.

And, you'll get access to all of the Sirius channels that aren't on satellite...

My Satellite Sirius is in the motorhome. I stream it on the app in my truck.

The current SiriusXM satellites that are in service are all in geosynchronous orbits roughly above the equator. Norther BC is almost over the horizon from those birds and the signals levels will be extremely low, both in terms of power and in relation to the horizon. Reception of those signals at that high of latitudes is going to be iffy, and sporadic, at best. If it does happen to work for some folks, I'd attribute that to a combination of very good receiving equipment and some luck.

The three original Sirius satellites launched 20-25 years ago used a different orbital pattern that included passage over Alaska and northwest Canada. Those satellites were decommissioned back in 2016 having fulfilled their expected 15 year service life. Any change in reception in your area was far more recent than the Sirius XM merger (2008).

No it was shortly after the merger, i remember calling them and getting the excuse that their has been a issue with the satellite and that they were looking at a solution and a replacement. THey actually promised the issue would have been fixed within the year. I canceled my subscription shortly after due to some shady billing practices they had done to me and lied about even though i could see it in my invoicing. Only got it back a few years ago when i got this truck as i hated streaming from my phone.
