Sony DAV-S300 sound system and player

I am looking at making some upgrades to my MH when I can and changing out the satellite dish is one and the DVD player with surround is another. The player worked a few times but quit shortly after we purchased the MH. The sound was great but the remote was no longer with the unit. I am reading about this old unit and some functions work only with the remote so finding a used one doesn't seem to be an answer so my question is; is there a new unit out there to replace on the player where I can use the speakers I currently have? From what I understand the speakers are an electrically powered speaker but then I don't know for sure. The player is large unit that I have no idea how to remove. I am looking for any and all advice on what I should do to get the surround sound back. Thanks!

Here is a remote for your unit on EBAY for $15.

I have a similar unit that I installed in 2003 and it still works fine. As I recall the wire runs were light gauge and one of the critiques was that the wires would not power all sat speakers of the day very well.

The wired sub woofer will exceed your needs and we find the 5 Sat speakers to be good for music and dvds.

I guess you do not have some speakers working but have checked the wire connections at each speaker.

Since I installed my unit, I know that I can just slide it out of the AV cabinet surround. Friction is all that holds it in place.

There is a positive and negative wire and wire ports that need to be matched at the speaker. The colored speaker plugs at the player are easy to match up.

Once you get to the plugs at the back of the player use a voltmeter to test the continuity of each speaker wire run.

I just download the manual and it describes the connections.

I would think it would be worth the $15 remote and some time to analyze the installation to see if the unit works ok for your needs.

If you are past that then:

The wires may not perform well with different speakers due to light gauge.
The player may be just sitting in its place and needs to be broken free of any glues and pulled out?

Thanks. The player quit putting the DVD movie on the screen and the radio quit at the same time so you may have something there. Maybe the player is working and the speakers quit. Wow, you have me thinking now cause I had considered getting the remote for it until it quit. I have some things to check now.
