I share your enthusiasm. However, it is still vaporware and not particularly definitive. Private beta seems to be by Tesla or Starlink employee only. Public beta could be anything. Still nothing more definitive on hardware requirements or cost. Yes I would like to be beta tester. Spokane is about 47N, is that a good beta location? What/where is a high latitdude? So is just south of the US/Canada border a good place? That's where I want to be this summer so let's see what happens.

Given how many "teasers" Musk has thrown out about Tesla over the years, I'll believe this when I see actual details.

-What's the monthly cost? (Not a projection, a real cost you can sign up for)
-What download speeds should users expect?
-Is there a daily or monthly data cap?
-What's the cost of the ground station?
-How much clear sky does the ground station have to have in order to work properly?

Once I have answers to all these questions I'll be in a position to decide if Starlink is right for me.

I think it is safe to say most people that travel have interest in a system like this. If this is the first to market with the teased price range and equipment cost it likely will succeed, large deviation from this likely will price it out of range for most.

I bring this up because at one time a few years ago i had the opportunity to bring fiber into the neighborhood i lived in there were 13 houses each house had to agree to sign up with a min of $125 in services which included internet, tv, phone they offered at the time a package at $150 for all three for a period of three years. There was only dsl as the only other option at the time. I was able to get 11 of 13 homes to sign up not matter the offers or groups the 2 homes would not unless they could be around $50 because they saw that special price online. Well it ended up failing no fiber and the homes and to this day there is no internet services available at all. One the hold outs just asked me a few days ago if i could possible get that deal put together again because they really would like fiber.....No that bird has flown.

Anyways Musk has numbers just like that neighborhood to make his starlink deal work there has to be so many people sign on and stay for a long period of time 3 years or more i would guess. They will have something similar sign up for x period for this price it will include more than just a basic service addon's etc that make it a package deal but more profitable.

At the same time he is going to need to beat TMO on their home internet offering which is technically in beta will be rolled out more in mass in the near team.

Whoever reaches the go line first IMO will likely be the long term winner. Because of locking in folks and once you get something that works most people do not switch. TMO is probably a lot closer than Starlink. Musk I am sure knows this and has his foot on the gas to get their.

It will eventually open up information to other parts of the planet currently not served by other providers. Access to medical, navigation, research and democracy will all benefit. I'm not sure it will compete with local providers initially. But, he is a guy with vision that has a habit of succeeding. Guess we'll all have to see.

We have one year free access to internet on my wifes Tesla right now. Looks like it will be about 10 bucks a month after that. Coverage is as good as the cell networks which is OK. Starlink should be better but I'm not sure how an antenna would be incorporated into the car...or if that is even the plan.

! Competition is always good for the consumer... And while for sure Mr Musk is an eclectically driven individual - I respect what he has done. Heck, he could have sat back and lived off of the millions he'd earned via PayPal... But he went 'all in' with Tesla and SpaceX... He's for sure, not the norm as both a millionaire and an owner of a business... Driven, and demanding, and from some accounts egotistical. But, he leads by example, and is a hard working individual.

Wish him well... And hope Starlink does provide another 'Internet Connectivity Tool' for the arsenal while traveling

Starlink will have enough bandwidth to handle all the internet traffic we can throw at it. It is designed as a distributed system to do just that. Even the best current T-Mobil 5G connections are only pushing 35 - 135 Mb per second (latency depends on local and saturation). Starlink is looking to push 1+ GIG per second at 20-30 Ms round trip latency. 10 - 100 TIMES faster than T-Mobil best 5G.

I have already sent my letter in requesting Public Beta test status as a On-The-Road full time RV participant.

Starlink will flat out revolutionize Internet access for a lot of us.

Look up. They are out there.
