Cool Starlink or Owned Dish Equipment?

Trying to make up my mind between Starlink Roam or Activating the two (one is portable) Winegard domes that were on my MH when I bought it. Since we are not full timers whatever we have will be off line (not costing) at least 5 months a year. I can't move the Starlink to my condo building when it is not on the motor home for two reasons: No antennas are allowed on the roof and there are too many obstructions when I look at the app while on my screened in lanai. Plus, I have Xfinity at the condo for TV and Internet.

I have never used the Dish set up but I have seen it lock on to a shopping channel to verify that it does work. I can't get it to do that now so there may be a cost for a tech to get it going if I can't figure it out. I suspect the Wally which probably has been powered up for 8 months may not work, so there is that cost too.

Comments like "read a book" and other similar pronouncements will be considered by my TV loving wife to be Sanctimonious.

The Wally should still boot up and try to connect. If it is not authorized, it will still get the welcome to Dish channel.

What antenna do you have?

It all depends on what you want. The Starlink system and Dish Network are two totally different technologies. With Starlink you will get full internet service with roaming capabilities and with Dish you will get television service only. Both services can be started and stopped when not in use and cost per month with any premium channels on Dish would be about the same. The big expense would be the cost of the Starlink equipment.

Two Winegard domes.

Totally understand what you are saying. What I would appreciate is your opinion about what I should do given my circumstances.

You haven't fully explained your circumstances. As mentioned, you're asking about two different technologies .... StarLink provides internet access for a wide variety of video streaming services. Dish Network provides satellite TV, not internet. So what's your priority?

If the condo has cable TV service and you want to try and replicate that Dish is probably the way to go.

Me, I have not had cable TV for at least 10 years. We stream everything from Amazon and Netflix so an internet connection is all I need. Got that covered with a T-Mobile hotspot. Starlink, from what I hear, would be more reliable and faster. But I'm too frugal for starlink.

Given your circumstances, I would probably go with Starlink as you would have internet for both streaming and surfing. If you went with Dish, you would still need an internet connection for surfing.

Starlink for sure. Pause when not using the trailer. Stream whatever you want and xfinity might even have a web streaming you get.

XFinity does have an app but a lot of channels can't be viewed while away from home. If one was really technically inclined, this could be worked around with a VPN to home, but that's outside this topic.
