Elon Musk certainly thinks differently than everyone else. He is hard to guess. From what I've heard him say, they don't have a real interest in trying to expand their market "type" as he see the global market share of those in rural areas to be sufficient in scope.

We need to keep in mind that Elon didn't start Tesla to be rich. He did it for environmental reasons. He also didn't start SpaceX to be rich. He did it so we can send people to live on Mars. The real reason for Starlink appears two-fold: help fund SpaceX and getting to Mars, and to help people that don't have good internet. More altruistic in his desire, it appears, and a global market share that he believes will make it all happen.

I have been submitting suggestions for them to reverse geo-fence the antennas or basically create dead-zones around the cities and allow us to take the satellites anywhere else. Hopefully, this is possible and something they do. Not sure how their geofencing is programmed and maintained.

I believe RV and mobile use of Starlink may be a while coming.

They just asked the FCC to approve a two year test of a system in a Gulfstream jet. It would be tested at airports and in flight for two years.

Will mobile or remote use of Starlink have to be tested for two years also?

Here’s a video by the Mobile Internet Resource Center that explains what’s going on with the Starlink’s current beta stage and their plans for the future.

Yeah, This guy is just posting a video on what everyone can read on the Internet and a lot of speculation. When you listen to him, he uses, "probably, most likely, and hopefully" a lot.

I would agree with him (as posted over and over in this thread) that this is for BETA user still at this time. That means people that are willing to risk, want to try, like to be early adopters and can throw it away if it isn't what they want.

One thing that all of Musk companies have done well is adapt. They push out something. Try it. If it doesn't work exactly the way they want or there is feedback, they adapt and change. I'm pushing for geo-"lockout" for populated areas so these can be mobile.

Keep in mind, they have plans for 10's of thousands of satellites. If this initial testing proves the concept will be adopted and helpful, there will be the capacity for many, many more people and the terms and conditions of the beta can be modified with the release to the public. It will also mean that the antenna eventually wont have to move all the much as there will at all times be several satellites above head pretty much everywhere in the US (except northern Alaska....sorry guys!!!).

In the end, yes, don't go out and buy this and then hit the road, but do keep watching and listening for how it evolves...and it will evolve.

For me personally, it would be plenty long to position nearby my motorhome to a clear space if I choose to park under a tree.
gsgriffin Thank you. I was wondering just that. Did they leave enough cable to move it around for a clear shot.100ft would be about what I would think it should be with out any kind of signal loss and maybe 150ft.

Starlink continues to move very quickly. Sure helps to own your own rockets and have lots of money, I suppose.

This is to circle back to a much earlier conversation about the base stations and satellites needing to have lasers connecting them to one another in order to expand past a single satellite above also having to be in range of a base station. They have started launching them!

in the last launch, 10 satellites with a polar orbit are equipped with lasers. It is interesting to note that after winning Federal Communication Commission for polar orbit on January 8th, they launched these on January 24th. These guys don't mess around. They plan to have all satellites next year (2022) with lasers.

https://spacenews.com/spacex-adds-la...nk-satellites/

This is pure speculation at this point and based on rumors of folks seeing what appear to be other base stations being built in various locations...it won't surprise me if they suddenly have dozens of more ground stations suddenly available all at once...perhaps when they open for public (non-beta) shortly. They were expected to do so in the next month or so.

Here is another video of the current Starlink equipment - a nice hard storage bag for the basement and I'm ready.

Connect to the internet ANYWHERE!

We've been careful on this thread to not mislead people into thinking this is mobile or available "anywhere"...it is NOT AT THIS TIME (2/2021)

If you see an official notice from Starlink stating that they have changed the "geolock" to a "geofence", please post that here. Until then, the video is just repeating what we know and you can find all over the web.

I understand about the current geofence & new launch laser link sat & have been seeing the new ground stations in the US - I just like the video because they went into cable length and showed the app with the sky view.

Looks like they are expanding the testing location - I just received an e-mail and my address in the western sub of Chicago was valid. Funny that I have Fiber and Comcast available at my address.

They've opened it up for orders for lower locations. I've signed up for livingston tx with a mid to late 2021 delivery date ($99 deposit). I've read that Missouri is now getting orders for the service within 2-4 weeks for delivery through the site.

I just signed up using my winter Rockport TX address. That's a ways further south. I was promised mid to late 2021 delivery.

Signed up here in Mississippi for later this year. It's got to be better than some of the other service I've had.
