Another interesting observation for me...

With the original Dishy and recently reconnected (after no connection for 5 months), and rebooted the Starlink using the app, and now having the latest software version... I see a difference.

Prior to the reboot and automatic software upgrade, I had a lot of outages and drops and some latency spikes. Outages every minute or two and the graph showed a lot "dropping" though not totally lost. Latency has also calmed down. Speed also appears to be more consistently high and higher.

Now, for the past 4 hours, with the new software, not a single drop at all!!!

Very interesting!

From what I've seen - roaming/portable works after the Feb 2022 firmware.

My Dishy McFlatface has been roaming/portable enabled starting 3/9/2022 - Have been portability = true over FL, SC and GA.

I think you are on the right track. The Version 2 Starlink vertical mast is 1.5" OD.

I was able to remove a Dish Network satellite TV dish from it's mast (1.650") and insert the Starlink mast (1.50" OD) into it and clamp it down. It doesn't fit as tight as I'd like, but so far it's working well. If I redo it I'll make a vertical cut on the Dish Network mast and use a better quality clamp.

Picture is the Starlink mounted in the Dish mast on our home.

Instead of cutting the Dish mast...

Fill the difference in the mast and clamp sizes with some type of SHIM.

Get a short piece of PVC pipe that will fit around the Starlink mast. Maybe about 4-5" based on your photo. In other words, enough to fit between the clamp and the Starlink mast.

Make a couple of lengthwise cuts in the PVC so that it can be compressed. You might need to remove about an inch. Or, if it still does not fit, you might remove half of the pipe so it looks like a "C" from the end. A bit of trial and error may get you what you need without destroying the integrity of the Dish clamp.

Or, if not PVC, something else that is sturdy might work as well. You need something that will not degrade in the elements. Actually, Schedule 40 PVC will degrade if exposed to sunlight. But, if the PVC is "hidden" inside the clamp, it should work.

Another thought for a shim is thin plastic cutting mats (think dollar store stuff) that can be cut and layered to achieve the correct thickness.

New message on the starlink dish

I'm using my PC / Chrome to access my dish and saw a new line of information that was not there a couple of hours ago.

Outside your service address is now being listed

I also think there is an phone update that could need to be installed.

Check out Blue Stacks. Bluestacks.com

It is obviously geared toward gaming, but I find it can just most other apps. Like, Whatsapp. Some programs that obviously need the sensors of the phone won't do what you like, but so long as you have the internet on your computer, search for the app and install it and try.

If you are outside your service address and in a new location for a long time, try changing your service address and see if that changes. Perhaps they are changing "portability" to allow to you get in until you update your service address and ask for full access in the new location?

Would also be nice to know what the throttled level is. If you could be testing at peak times (typically around 6pm-8pm), I would love to know if you see a difference. If by throttling they mean that your speed goes from 150 to 50, I COULD LIVE WITH THAT!!! If it means it goes down to 1mbps, then, Houston, we have a problem.

Damage

Dish arrived Sunday. Ordered Tuesday.

Unfortunately, see attached images:

On the plus side, after 30 minutes of not doing much, it came on line and is giving me 150 down and 15 up. Not blazing, but not bad. Latency according to speed tests is in the 25ms range, but the starlink app calls it much higher, which is interesting.

Dish was activated about 30 miles as the crow flies form the service address.

The lowest I've seen while roaming/portable in any location is around 50 mbps & a high of 140 to 150 mbps "2 location were near cities" download in 2.5 months. I don't really running a lot of speed tests any more while on Starlink because it just works all the time now for streaming "no buffering or hangs because of download speeds".

The DW likes to stream a lot. For the month of March used 1,108 GB thru Starlink. Great not to having to monitor it anymore!

How can I tell how much data I've used? Is it on the app?
