Streaming on iphone or android in Canada

While traveling in the US, we have been using our phone hotspot successfully almost everywhere. The plan is a Magenta+ with 40G hotspot data, mostly used for TV streaming.

Now we are traveling for 3 weeks in Canada and noticed there is only 5G fast data and used it up in no time. We added a 30-day 15G package for $50 but for some reason it is just not that fast and streaming is intermittent.

Question is if we can buy maybe a Canadian data plan with another SIM and if so, what is the best option?

Thanks, JB

I know this is a few weeks late. I tried to get a local canadian sim card September 2021 while traveling in canada (Best buy, costco) Both retailers ran into a problem when trying to register/activate the plan I needed a valid canadian ID and address.

Fast fowared to May 2022, I'm using google fi plan teathered to old phone while traveling hte Alcan and it has worked great. So far in Alaska it connnects better than my verison phones.

Hopefully this helps.

Thanks for the information!
Actually, in the meantime we are back in the US and the 15G package lasted just long enough for our trip.

I did not know about the Google Fi plan and researched a bit but after all it is quite comparable to our T-Mobile Magenta+ plan and a bit more expensive since we have the 55+ age option for T-Mobile. So, I guess for now we will stay with them. Not going back to Canada anytime soon, anyway. Too many mosquitos....

We have four seasons up here. Winter, black flies, mosquitos and fall. Lol
