Streaming Service Feb 2025
I have been a Diirect TV Sat customer since very shortly after it started. I use it in my coach and at home. My bill is around $200.00 per month. I would like to be able to view my local channels on the road. I figured I could watch local channels on the road via OTA.
I have some friends have You Tube, and Fubo but they only use it at their home, not on the road. What do you feel is the best options.

I switched to Directv streaming from satellite about 3 years ago when fibre optic high speed internet became available in my area. Until then we had a portable winegard satellite dish and two older standard def receivers to use in the MH. Wanted to stay with DirectV because wife wants the channels she was used to. Also at that time the only streaming service to carry Fox sports midwest (now Ballysports) was Directv (now available on Fubo I believe). No more loss of signal due to storms. The price for a similar programming package was about half of the satellite version we had been paying. In the MH, I no longer have to mess with setup/take down of sat dish and we now have high def, our local channels from home, and our "virtual" DVR recordings as well as other streaming like Netflix and Prime. We went with the Roku devices for both home and MH tvs, so the only downsides to the change was getting use to the different remote functions on the Roku remote and of course the wifi signal while in the MH. I'm using the Travlfi hot spot as well as our ATT plan hotspot ability on our phones, but there are numerous threads discussing the best options for wifi in RVs depending individual preferences/circumstances.

We use YouTube TV. The same account (streaming; $83+tax/mo for the basic plan) allows us to use it at home and on the road. You can also add premium channels for an additional cost.
While on the road we cannot watch our local channels live but can set programs to record (e.g. the local news back home) and watch about an hour after it plays. It's cloud-based storage (no DVR) so no limit on storage size. Local channels are available live for the location we're at which helps us keep track of the local weather and have found particularly useful in tornado alley. Internet service is required for YouTube TV.
Good luck

We have been using YTTV for 5 years and have never had any issues with receiving our preferred local channels while on the road. We can watch locals in real time; no recording required. After some period, YTTV will bug you about changing locations, which gives you locals for your current location. If you use the YTTV app with location services enabled you will be directed to current local stations.

Same for us...
We dumped satellite TV and cell phones 5 years ago when Starlink became available and we use YTTV. Besides saving us much $$$, YTTV has a much better user inteface and there isn't any big equipment footprint to find a home for in our small RV. We are currently watching our local southern OR news while RVing in Costa Rica.

DirecTV Stream
I was like you, paying $250 for satellite. I switched to DirecTV Stream and got the same package that I had with satellite for $120 less. Had to manage data usage for a while but with ATT Fiber, no data caps so no more issues with that. On the road, I use either the park wifi or our 60gb of hotspot data on our phones and use DirecTV Stream or OTA antennae. If you set the home location on your DTV Stream while you are home, you get the same channels as if you were home (local news, Braves Baseball, etc.)

I switched from DTV sat to DTV stream about a year ago. I really like it, especially on the road. If you stream DTV with a device that doesn't provide "location" (Roku for example), you will receive your home locals just like you are at home. If you use a device that can provide location (DTV Gemini), you can see the current location locals, but you can't record them. In the case of the Gemini device, location on or off is an option.
BTW, I also reduced my bill by about $80/month for the same channels.

This will depend on your streaming hardware. AppleTV will use the locals for your location most times ime, not for your home. Even if you have a VPN routing the connection back through your home internet. If you disable location services for DTV, it will simply not run. YMMV. I "believe" roku will use your locals from home when traveling, though. Depends whether you want news and weather for where you are or where you live. Carry both and use both if that is needed.

I was at a show & saw a display selling the Android box with a $50/month subscription & asked the competitor at the same show what the difference was. He said if you just stop paying the $50 nothing changes & the device still works the same.

We use Google TV and we get all our local stations. We also use Starlink exclusively for Internet/streaming.
