What is the best way to receive tv service for a fifth wheel. Trying to watch the weight as well. Full time rver but new to it. Thanks

You have a choice to stream from your phone, antenna, campground,satellite. All depends on what you want, none of the above should effect weight.

Antenna doesn't pick up well or at all in places. Don't want to rely on campgrounds. So probably sattilite.

I have tried streaming, antenna, cable and DirectTV satellite. DirectTV is terrible. They don't seem to even know what an RV is. Streaming requires a good signal and most RV parks don't have that. Antennas didn't work well for me and the cable in most parks has very limited programing.

I just recently switched from DirectTV to Dish. Basically the same programing, but Dish has "Dish Outdoors". You have your home system and then get a small, lightweight "Tail Gater" dish and receiver for the RV. About 400.00. For the months you use it you pay 5.00 extra. Just put the little dish outside facing south with an unobstructed view of the Southern sky, use the menu to tell it where you are, and in about 10 minutes it searches, finds the satellites, locks on and you have the same programing that you have at home.

What kind of off-air antenna do you have on your RV. If it is one of the round omnidirectional antenna, do not expect much from it. It performs equally bad in all directions. The King Jack antenna is directional and a little better, but not so good in fringe areas.

Still the best performing RV antenna is the old Winegard crank-up antenna like the Sensar IV with the Wingman attachment.

Hi ! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined us!

We use the crank-up antenna on top for local channels when they are available. We have the Dish Outdoors package with the Wally receiver, an external hard drive for recording, and Tailgater antenna. Works for us!

We have a roof mounted antenna for locals.

For satellite, I put out a Dish tailgater and hook it to my Wally receiver. Simple. Cable attaches outside at a port. No monkey motion required. No heavy lifting.
