Doesn't bleach kill the bacteria? Isn't it the bacteria that breaks down the "brown" stuff? If the bacteria is killed, wouldn't the "brown" stuff build up?

Just an inquiring mind.

Good point Wayne but I think the premise is that our holding tanks are not the place to have waste break down but rather just to "hold" it. I can understand the "chamber pot" analogy.

What hasn't been mentioned is the impact on park septic systems of a bunch of RVs dumping chlorine laced waste water. I'm not sure that's a good thing.

I've had the same concerns about the fresh water sanitation process which leaves me with 100 gallons of chlorinated water which I either have to dump on the ground (killing the grass) or pump into the parks dump lines.

Oxyfresh

Does oxyfresh work as well as CALGON? I believe it is just a waterh softener. Also HE detergent - would that work as well? Better for the environment. Also can VINEGAR work instead of bleach?? I use baking soda and vinegar to clean everything.

Thank you

Borax is a naturally occurring substance which is not only a water softener but a deodorant. One cup dissolved in 5 gallons of water added to an empty tank before a trip should do it.

Cascade dish washing detergent can also be used but has a slight amount of bleach. Ever wonder why glasses and dishes come out without spots and streaks? Mix same as above. Both of these products a readily available at any supermarket.

Hey Guy, please don't get rude. You had a very good post. Don't spoil it by insulting someone who had a question. The only "dopey" question or concern is one that isn't asked or expressed.
Thanks again for your post
