Trav’ler DirecTV

My satellite dish quit, low LNB voltage or no. DW loves direct tv. Winegard does not support my dish as it’s 10 years old. They have a refurbished unit for $1725, we don’t stream or DW doesn’t. Me and the dog goes to bed at 9:30, DW goes to bed at 12:00. I’m thinking I’m calling someone tomorrow and find out what it cost for the install. My wife will go with me anywhere as long as she has tv.

I think the RF Mogul system is about the same price as that refurbished Winegard, and I like the customer service way better with the RF Mogul.

If I was starting over, RF Mogul would be my choice.
I saw a refurb on EBAY for $999.

Doesn't sound like you've done any troubleshooting yet though. Have you done a Youtube search for this issue...there's a few there to watch.

Same here. We had it installed in January 2021 in Goodyear, Az.
So far, we have had 1 issue with it and RF Mogul took care of it over the phone. They sent the replacement controller from Utah to Ohio for us at no charge in 2 days.
I would go with RF Mogul again.

I took the camper to a rv dealership that works on Winegard satellite and they found the problem but Winegard doesn’t support my model, the dish is 10 years old. Winegard only supports the pro now and since DirecTV has brought out Dish now they may just use one satellite dish. Anyway we only have one more trip planned until next April and that’s for 3 days I’ll probably wait some as I’m really trying to pay off my camper. Right now Winegard doesn’t have new satellites in stock. Right now Winegard may be waiting until DirecTV decides what to do. It makes no sense to have two different devices in one company, DirecTV is going to combine both companies. Anyway if Winegard cuts there prices a little on the day after thanksgiving I may buy

If they told you what part is needed you might find it on Ebay. Then either replace it yourself or find someone who will. Chuck

I mounted my Directv 12 years ago & the only issues I've ever had was to replace the LNB cable & had a stow issue that was resolved using the Winegard troubleshooting guides.

I, too, had to replace the LNB cable on our unit. I swapped it out with standard coax instead of Winegards' expensive cable. Chuck

I called the rv dealership and they told me the unit was not repairable plus Winegard doesn’t Cary any parts. I called a satellite repair shop in Elkhart IN and they can’t get parts for my unit. Camping World has the dish, $2250. I’ll wait until the day after thanksgiving and see if I can get a discount somewhere. Winegard does not have any new units only refurbished units at $1520. DW likes DirecTV. With the Trav’ler all my wife does is push a startup button and in 20 minutes she is watching tv. I’ll probably end up buying one from Camping World

What parts are "They" saying on your Trav'ler are bad?
There's a lot of various Winegard Trav'ler stuff for sale on Ebay...My buddy bought his from there for $639.00 with shipping & I installed it. A Ebay seller has a complete LG system like yours for sale $599.00 OBO...there out there.

The shop said the Trav’ler was bad and couldn’t be fixed. Parts are not available from Winegard. I’m going to wait until the day after Thanksgiving and order a Pro model from someone, probably Camping World. DW loves DirecTV and she will go anywhere with me and she is worth it, it’s not like I’m broke. Tonight she is watching DirecTV while mostly sleeping. I’m planning a Alaska trip plus a trip to Quartzsite next year

I found a brand new Trav’ler in the box for what a refurbished one sells for. I’m debating to buy it or wait for a sale. It will cost $600 bucks to get the unit installed. They is no way I’m installing it. I wish my wife knew how to stream because I would get Starlink.

Well that's a lot better than buying a New Pro Trav'ler...the install would be a simple swap out since you already have one up there on the roof. You unscrew to 2 cables on the base of the unit (coax & controller cable) & then remove the 6 or 8 screws that attach the Trav'ler base to the roof. Clean all the old sealant from the Trav'ler footprint. Put Buty Tape on the new Trav'ler base & screw it down to the roof then Dicor the screws & around the base & reattach the two cables & your done..$600.00 to do that swap out job & should Not take more than 1 hr. is a lot!!
