Traveler data plug source?
One of the wires on the data plug in the back of the controller has broken off. How does this thing go together? Do I need a new plug?

Is it a 6 pin connector? It should be this one.

You can get a pin remover on Amazon and a new replacement pin. If you are careful you can crimp the pin with a needle nose pliers or purchase an inexpensive crimper on Amazon also. Get a number of extra pins incase you mess one up. Its not hard give it a try.

I ordered a $15 crimper, some plugs, and pins. I'm going for it. Nothing to lose at this point.
Worse case, I buy a data "extension cord", cut the end off and reconnect to the existing cable.

It will all work fine. This is the crimper I use and it does an adequate job.

The fittings are so tiny that I didn't notice that there were two different sizes until I looked at the picture on Amazon again. I spent a frustrating couple hours trying to make the small one's work, when I should have been using the larger pieces. Once I figured that out, it went pretty smooth.
We are now up and running.
