TV Install

Not sure if this is interesting to anyone else, but I replaced my old TV with a nice new LED one yesterday and took a few pics of how I did it.

First, I took the front trim off so I could get the old TV out. I didn't plan to put it back on, because it looked like the new TV would cover everything up.

Next, I cut a thick piece of plywood to fit 2/3 of the way back into the opening and attached a TV wall mount to it.

One of the tricky parts of the process was figuring out where to put the TV mount on the board. I shoved the board into the box, attached the mount to the TV, and held it up like it was attached to the board, and then marked where the mount needed to be on the board. This was pretty key because I wanted to make sure the TV was going to be positioned vertically in such a way that I could get a support installed under it later. I also wanted as much of the empty box covered as possible.

After I figured the mount part out, I put some brackets along the side, to attach the board to the cabinet sides. I put a few screws in it , then put the TV on to make sure all was well. It was.

After checking that things looked good for launch, I put the rest of the screws in, put the TV on, and plugged it in.

Success!

All that is left is to put something along the bottom to support it from bouncing around. I'll probably put a piece of wood along the bottom, or maybe a couple metal L brackets.

Hope this is interesting to someone looking for ideas…

Oh, forgot to mention. The TV is 30.5 inches wide (32 inch TV). The space between the cabinet doors on either side is 30 inches. Since the mount lets the TV move a bit, it's no issue, shoving it over a tiny bit to open the cabinet door.

Very nice and clean install. I'm wanting to replace our front tv also if I can figure out out to get the front trim off.

Very nice! We are in the process of doing this right now and this looks like a great way to mount the tv. I like that you used a 32 in tv instead of one that would fit in the box. When you figure out what you will use on the bottom to support the tv please post so we can see that also. By the way....what brand of tv did you buy?

It appears that the mount does not have a "locking pin" so how is the tv kept in place during transit?

Nice install! Wish I had the hands on ability. Behind the TV you now have a small "hideyhole" for stuff. (this, in the event you don't have a built in safe)

Great Job, Not being critical but speaking from experience when you travel I would have a system in place to lock the TV down. The brackets seem to get loose after some use and will let the TV travel while under way. Very good job on the design and installation.
