With all due respect, your phone is not being shut down because it isn't compatible with 5G. If you've been told that by a representative, it's simply incorrect.

Your phone is being shut down because it is not compatible with VoLTE (Voice Over LTE) which is sometimes called names such as HDAudio. Phones like yours use the 3G network when then authenticate to the network and, therefore, if there is no 3G network they can't connect.

The alarm monitoring company will notify their customers well in advance. They don't want to be liable if you have a break-in and the system doesn't notify the monitoring center!

My alarm company called and emailed me. Setup an appointment and sent out a serviceman to change out the board in my panel.

I knew this was coming and checked my Mobley device, which appears to be OK but I also use a ASUS1900 as a router and is not supported anymore.

I have the router connected directly to the Mobley, do you think it will work?
I didn't see the ZTE Mobley on the white list

As of 9:35 AM this morning, 2/23/2022, my Mobley is still working normally. Anyone having any problems with them?

I wonder how many phone-owners really know the ramifications of this change.
The analog cellular (AMPS) phaseout was just over a decade ago, and it caused all of the same sorts of problems with phones, cars, and alarm system modems needing to be upgraded. 4G and even 5G will likely be phased out in a decade or so since new generations are more efficient with cellular spectrum and not economical or even practical to keep supporting them indefinitely --- demand for bandwidth keeps increasing, but there are hard limits on how much RF spectrum is available.

Interesting article on the shutdown:

(It hadn't occurred to me that the medical alert buttons I got for my parents might be shut down too.)
