Interesting

I have SPRINT and have a family plan (up to 4 phones/smart phones) that has unlimited data/text and 1500 shared phone (talk) minutes (3000 minutes available -for extra cost of course.)

Thanks for sharing that Dirk. That would be great news for me and is probably pretty forward thinking on the part of Verizon. I'm sure the need for separate data plans has, or soon will be, hampering the growth of the the entire industry and this should put some pressure on the competition.

I have a Verizon family plan with separate data plans for the wife and daughter... as well as my air card in the coach. I, on the other hand, am still using a cell phone which may as well have a rotary dial!

We may stay with Verizon now, was looking to go with Sprint for that very reason. Was going to cost us 150.00 more a month with the smart phone data plan.

This will be a huge benefit to MiFi users. Since MiFi allows for 5 users to connect to the device, the current data plan for the device is for only 5 gigs of data. You sure can eat up a months allotment very quickly with 5 users.

Same here. We've had Verizon for years, and currently have a shared family plan with 2 unlimited data plans. We don't renew for another year, but since Verizon announced no more unlimited data packages, we've been shopping around for various options. We will not stay with Verizon if they don't come up with something better than what they have now.

The way I read the announcement is that the phone data plans would become a shared plan just like shared family minutes. The MiFi device has the 5G plan tied to it, not the devices. Maybe I am wrong, but I don't think so. As such, the MiFi is being billed at the account level which is where they want to get to. The [up to] 5 users would continue share that 5G as they do today. Now IMOHO, I think they should have a plan higher than 5G. I mean on their 4G network they have a 10G plan.
