Verizon Monthly Discount

Just wanted to pass along some info I found out when I visited a Verizon store to change my monthly service.

I use to get a monthly discount on my base fee through the company I worked for even after I retired until last year when they dropped me. When I visited the store they commented about the discount stopping. I informed them I had retired about 4 years ago and they asked if I got a monthly pension check from the company which I do. They told me if I brought in a current copy of my pension payment that identified the company they would submit that as proof of employment with my old company. They would submit it to the corporate office and indicated that they haven't had any denied in the past.

So for anyone who lost their discount recently talk to Verizon and show them a pension payment from you previous employer and you may be able to get it reinstated. If mine sticks I save 17% a month on the base charge.

I was told that whether or not the discount extends to retirees depends on the employer and that neither of the employers from whom I receive a pension provide discounts for retirees.

I get the discount too. For me it's 17%. Well worth looking in to.

docj: Did your employer provide discounts to the employees, if so, would think you would get a discount based on the pension check from the employer.

I don't think my previous employer would care and Verizon wasn't interested in that, they just wanted to see if I could prove I got a pension check from them. Verizon submitted it based as if that was my paycheck from the company. It really is Verizon that gives the discount and your former Company is not charged anything, at least in my case they weren't. Verizon gave the discount to get my former companies business.

It's definitely worth trying. Nothing ventured nothing gained.

This past summer I got the notice that I had to update my employment information to continue to get the discount. I sent a copy of my pension receipt and it was approved.

I got the same message and tried to go through the process on line. It wouldn't let me so I had to call and they explained that their new agreement with my previous employer (HP) no longer provides discounts for retirees.

No pension so no pension stubs to show.

In addition Verizon also gives a military discount of 15%. All you need is a copy of your DD form 214 with an honorable discharge. You do not have to be retired militay, just time served.

The worse you can get for asking is a "No."

I got the same notice from verizon saying I needed to update my employment status. Mine was a military dd214 which I submitted several years ago and the status of that document will never change. Nevertheless, I had to resubmit another copy if my dd214 to which I wrote them a note telling them to quit pissing us off. Lol. Did no good as I still wound up with an increase in my bill. All a strategy to nickel and dime the consumer

Our bill also has a military/veteran discount on it. We tried calling, going online to re-verify and ended up needing to go into a physical store to have them re-verify the military/veteran portion. It seems when they set up the verification process online they did not take into account the fact that veterans do not normally have a pay stub and the way they are doing it needs some form of pay stub. So into a store we went and they assured us that we would not need to go thru this again.

Even if you have not gotten an email/phone call/text yet about needing to re-verify any discount you are getting, rest assured you will. They are having everyone go thru it, just not all at once.
