Visible Hotspot

I am wondering if Visible is starting to enforce the 5M download speeds for Hotspot usage. Over the last several days, downloading large files, my Hotspot download speeds are between 5-6M. On the phone data is still coming in at 25-30M. I'll fool around today and try various tricks like Pda-Net etc. to see if this is the case. Also, I have been parked for over a month, and I wonder if maybe they see this as a Home use situation. I have read that there are growing numbers of Visible users, who, having a solid Data Connection, are using this as a standalone Home Internet alternative.

There have been reports of this happening in the last few days.

I haven't tried Visible today yet but late yesterday it was going better than usual for me.

How do these hotspots improve upon the ones built in to cell-phones?

We've used our Verizon phones that way for years (of course we don't stream movies, etc).

A Phone provider can see that you using the Hotspot on a Phone. The Hotspot is an additional step in the connection that they see. They can throttle that step and not the Phone itself.

Ok, I ran some tests. On Phone Data is still at whatever the Network will bear, in my location, 25-30M. Using Pda-Net to bypass the Hotspot, D/L speed are around 15M. Using Phone as tethered Hotspot its consistent 5M down or up.

I have noticed this also. Time to tweak the settings on the Mofi.

I get 5MB down on any type of hotspot with Visible. Phone hotspot, USB tethered to Mofi router or using the SIM directly in the router. Verizon is very good at enforcing this limitation...I've tried several "tweaks" to settings but they never make a difference. I can still use 5MB to stream to one TV which now still a heck of a lot cheaper than satellite.

Speed test on the phone itself runs about 30MB.

when i had the 5mg DL for months I complained and if you look at my posts ,, i had few techs over 3 months.. mess with my service,, being told they do not limit.../.. so right now mine works,, tethered to a router it is fine,, streaming netfix right now, wife is on FB posting our new dog pics,, I am here with 4 sites open.. one is a yotube viso on binding 2 sims in my miktotik.. blah blah LOL

Lots of inconsistant reports..
