Want Dish but can't use DVR?
right now I have directv loved it but its getting to expensive.
I want to switch to dish called today and I was told that with the PathwayX2(which I'm leaning towards) or tailgater you cannot use their DVR, that you have to buy the $1700 model dish to use DVR while watching another channel.
now I'm not the smartest person around but I find it hard to believe all these RV users are not DVRing programs. my question is how do you do this?
with my Directv I just take the unit from home and plug it in the 5th align dish and I'm good to go. I can watch one channel while recording another or go play golf and watch the game when I get home. what is the set up you guys use and how do you do this.
thank you

Dish uses at least 3 satellites in any given area. Home Dish dishes are oval and have 3 LNBs. The small rooftop enclosed RV domes only have room and dish size for one LNB. When our single tuner Wally switches channels to one on another satellite you can hear the dish rotate.
You CAN use a Wally and an external drive as a DVR, one channel at a time.
We have a Hopper at home and use its DVR and Dish Anywhere to watch DVRed shows, as long as we have internet.

Just finished a 7 night trip with our Dish Wally, TailGator 4 and USB DVR drive. I left the system setup at the house and recorded a few weeks of movies before the trip. I also used the DVR on the trip to pause and time shift a few more movies. I can live with the limitation on the road. At home my Hopper 3 can record anything I want and I can catch up when I get back home.
I switched from Directv to Dish so I could watch HD programing with the simple to use TailGator 4.

The Wally will record one channel, while you watch another, if connected to a 3 LNB oval dish.
If the Wally is hooked to a single LNB, dome type antenna, it will only record one channel, the one your watching.
You can record off the satellite while watching OTA ( over the air ) TV.

our plan is to leave for 3-4 months come home for a month then leave again. not wanting full time but most of the time on the road. setting up the Directv dish is not a big deal 10 minutes. I was hoping the automatic dishes that use Dish net work would give me the same convenience of recording one show while watching another like Directv does. These automatic dishes cant do this? or am I missing something. don't mean to be to boneheaded on this

at our new home we would use our phones as hotspots, cant justify paying for internet when we will only be there 2-3 months a year

The Dish representatives are a mass of misinformation. You would do better talking to the after market installers.
We use a DVR and dual receiver on our Wineguard Carryout. You have to make sure both shows are on the same satellite.

Dual outputs do not save the day for you. The Pathway still can only tune one satellite at a time so, if the second show on the second receiver is on the same satellite, you are all set. You could, I suppose, use two Wallys with HDs and get limited DVR capabilities.
Maybe it's time to bite the bullet, get a Trav'ler antenna and a Hopper and enjoy all the stuff you would have at home.

We record our shows at home thru the dish anywhere app. when we want to see the recorded show we use the dish anywhere app on our fire stick. If you have no problem with your internet connection then this works great.

This is the key .... you can record 1 channel and watch another channel as long as those channels are on the same satellite. If you are watching HiDef, this is the likely scenario anyway. As for the 2 outputs on an X2, both outputs are from the same satellite.

Only catch here is when you change local channels to where you currently are located. This loses local channels for the home setup. So no recordings on CBS, NBC, ABC...
My experience anyway.
