web pages go in circles...
I have a 'connection' problem similar to wagonmaster2's. Not a 'timing' problem exactly, mor of it going in circles.
Another web forum that I am a member of won't accept my log in from my new laptop computer. This particular website is the only site I'm having this problem with and I have no problem logging in from my home PC, only the lap top.
What happens is, I'll hit the "log-in" button,... put in my username and password, and hit the 'enter' button. The page will 'blink' and the log-in box with my log in info reappears.
I have been in contact with the board administrator who had told me to try 'refreshing' the page at different times during the log in process by punching " control + F5". That didn't work. The administrator said it was probably some setting in my new lap top and he'd talk to someone else about it and get back to me. So far, nothing. It may have been a ploy to get me off his computer.
There was one other site I had trouble with. In trying to purchase an appliance repair part I had to register in the site to set up an account, and couldn't. Again, the circle thing among three pages.
If there is a guru out there on this board that could give my a clue, I'd appreciate it.

It's happening now on a third site.
I'm looking at a restaurant site which lists 4 pages of restaurants. When going to the site, of course, it starts on page 1. When trying to bring up pages 2,3 or 4... again, the page 'BLINKS'... and page 1 reappears.
I haven't a clue.

What type of firewall program are you running? If you are using a firewall you can include exceptions in the firewall program to allow specific web sites to access your system. Some browsers will also block connections depending on how the browser privacy setting are configured. it would help to know what operating system you are working with, and the browser you use. You may also try deleting your cache and your cookie files, then try again. Remember that deleting cookie files will mean that you will have to know all of your passwords to re-enter web sites requiring them. The passwords will no longer be stored until a new session is established.

If you use Firefox, you can download a FF plug-in called Sxipper, that will store all your passwords and form data.
You can then clear cache and cookies without losing access to your different passwords and such.

Also, if your new laptop is running Norton as your antivirus, uninstall it and download Avast or Microsoft Security Suite, both of which are free to use and very effective security programs.
Norton clashes and conflicts with lots of different websites and programs, in my experience.

My home based PC is running Windows XP. The anti-virus software is Norton. I'm having no problem with the website forum on that computer.
My new laptop is running Windows 7, and don't remember off-hand which anti-virus software I'm running on that one but I know it's not Norton. I'm thinking it's McFee or something like that.
Sorry to sound so stupid but I haven't run an anti-virus program for years and it has caused me more problems than 'running bare' in the past.
The only reason I have it now is because the guy that come out to check (and fix) my old laptop sold me Norton for my old PC when he determined my old laptop was dead and I had to pay him an $88 service call if I just sent him packing without doing anything... so I had him take a look (and speed up) my old PC and for about $45 more he set me up with Norton for a year. It's suppose to check everything automatically, and give me a warm fuzzy feeling to boot!
The anti-virus software that come with my new Dell laptop (for a year or 15months) is a different brand than Norton and also is suppose to make me warm and fuzzy.
I use Firefox on both machines.
With all the "auto-protection" that I get from Firefox, Windows, Dell, Yahoo, Google and my local 'feel good' massage therapist, I'm getting so much of a 'fuzzy feeling', I'm almost Numb!
My "internet security level" is set to "medium to high"... what ever that means.

Somewhere in your browser under tools, tell your browser that this is a safe site. This should allow you to enter the site. Which type browser are you using?

Another problem I've noticed the last couple of days...
We have a "preview" button. Once in a while, (actually quite often as I have fat thumbs) when I read the "preview" and then hit the "preview post" button again, it doesn't work right. In the address line I get a bunch of numbers and the page doesn't change. I have to hit the refresh button left of the address box and hit "preview post" again. It doesn't usually happen unless I make corrections.
Sometimes several times before it goes.
Also, once in a while the 'refresh button' ( the curved arrow thingy) doesn't refresh at all. At the bottom of the page where the web addy pops up?... it will say "STOPPED".
wHAT'S UP WITH THAT?

It must have something to do with "cookies" because I can no longer log on to my "Google" account.
This isn't good. If my wife finds this out, no tellin' WHAT she'll do to MY COOKIES!

Clearing cookies won't prevent you from being able to log in to a site, you should just need to sign in again. This still sounds like a firewall or virus blocker issue to me.
Did you try a system restore?

Chief,
No I haven't tried a system restore.
I've been computin' for for about 10 years and never did a restore. I think that was one thing I asked, if Windows had a restore.
It's not like I don't back things up, I do,... when ever I get the prompt which is about every month or two.
As far as 'just signing in' again, that's the problem. I can't. After filling in my username and password and entering that,... it just 'blinks' and tha log in page is still there.
