Weird problem!
I have a Dell Latitude E6540 laptop running Windows 10. Sometimes when I am on a website and click on a link, nothing happens, and I see a notice at the bottom left that says "Establishing secure connection". After about 15 seconds a box pops up that says "Page unresponsive", with the option to Wait or Exit page. I have restarted, shut down completely, run full system scan using Bitdefender, with no results. I suspected some kind of virus, but Bitdefender says the system is clean. Any ideas?

There's nothing wrong. That error comes up when the page takes too long to load. It's on their end. They could be doing maintenance, or they're getting a lot of volume, or someone might have kicked out a plug. Whatever it is, it's on their side of the connection. Try refreshing the page and that should take care of it. If it doesn't and you still want to go there, try a different browser to see if that works. If a different browser works, you might need to update your regular browser.

My browser is set for auto updates. I'm using Chrome. I'll try it with Edge. Thanks!

Joe, my preferred browser is Firefox and they have one for Windows.
I also run Adblock plus and Ghostery. Adblock Plus is supposed to be for any devise. I believe Ghostery also runs on Window's platforms.
I don't see any ads on my computer...I know, I know, I'm not supporting the site but enough is enough.

I also use AdBlock Plus! Works great! I see that you're an IRV2 Supporter so you are supporting the site!

I should have said that it's unlikely that you needed an update. That's a last resort kinda thing like shutting it down and restarting.

Joe, I have been supporting for many years. Cheap, and I get a lot of entertainment from it. Cheaper than some of the video streaming services. I don't support them by looking at ads. I just don't like all that screen time that ads take.

Joe, the default with chrome is to require "SSL", secure sockets layer, on all websites it lets you access. You can see this from the lock icon on the left side of the address bar.
What you described is chromes default behavior when you try to access a potentially insecure site.
There is a setting so it will ask you and give you the option to access the site anyway.
Or just don't do that.

It looks like that only applies to the site I'm on at the moment?

Joe, I get the same issue with a few sites. I wait. Its an issue with poor performance of the site you are visiting. Notthing you can do. Wait or don't wait.
