What do full timers use besides FB for family & friends

We are getting ready to go full time the end of the month. I was thinking we might want something besides our Facebook page to post pics and videos so our kids, grandkids, and friends can see and keep track of us. So as not post to everyone on FB.
What are some other ideas for posting and sharing videos and pics?

Check out BlueBoatLog.com
It was started and primarily meant for boaters.
I experimented when motorhoming and it seemed to work OK on land.
I used it for a 64 day cruise last year and it worked very well to stay in touch, post text & pics and allow those you send a ,ink to to keep track of where you are and what you are up to.

See 2019 cruise link and BlueBoatLog outbound or return for examples of what you can do with it.

GroupMe is an excellent tool for sharing pictures and short videos. Google Duo for video calls.

Google Photos is a nice place to drop photos and vids into and allows you to create albums, send invites, etc. You can tie it down so only those you want to see it may do so. Really easy to do and much more private than social media such as FB.

Zello will do the job. You can even create your own groups so you limit who can see it or post to it.

I don't know much about Nosey Book (FB), but I've heard a lot of folks that have set up groups on it so that certain friends can only access certain posts you make. Just saying.

Have your kids or grandkids set up a group on FB for you that only allows certain friends to see what you post, including pics. You'll be safe (nothing is safe on the inet) then.

We are Apple people, so we use iMessage and FaceTime.
We have different groups in iMessage for family and friends.......
We use FaceTime group chat for playing D&D with the grandkids, and playing MaJong with my wives friend.

We have a public Facebook page as well as our personal FB accounts. The public page is open to anyone and, at our peak of traveling we had hundreds of followers.

To talk to the grandkids there's Facetime or simply video phone calls.

We have tried many relevant apps and found that LINE and Telegram are equally the best. Both are user friendly, free voice and video talks on inet anytime and anywhere, easy sharing files, and small download sizes. Now we are set on LINE .

I've done this too many ways...

In the end, if you have the time and dedication I have found blogging to be the best. If for no other reason than it documents your travels for future reference. I used Google's Blogger.com (also called blogspot I think). It took some time setting it up and I did have to continually update it with new stops/sights/etc. It keeps a very nice log for your trips and stops along the way and does allow some comments. However, I found I was getting fewer and fewer comments and views from friends and family so I stopped using it. Kind of sorry I did as it is as good a blog for personal reference as I have found.

After blogging I started to just type up something in Word (LibreOffice actually) and include photos. I'd save it as PDF and email when appropriate (major experience, stop, weekly - whatever). I only emailed people who bother to appear interested. I'd get a few response occasionally.

After not hearing from folks after a while I stopped blogging and emailing as I figured I was doing it for their (the viewers) benefit and not for myself and not getting anything feedback. I'm not sure if folks lost interest or what.

Now I just text message to family when we feel we have something to share.
I'll admit to using FaceBook - more in a minute.... And I've tried Instagram (yuk).

My last trip I did 2 things....
1. I got a Garmin inReach and left it on. I told everyone I thought would be interested where they could look on-line (I think it was by invitation) and see EXACTLY where I was in near-real time - right down to the ancient ruin well out of touch with cell or WiFi service and right down to the exact site we were camped in. It works without any input from us other than turning it on a selecting the service level we wanted when we activated the service. I was surprised at the folks who tracked us and would send an email, some even at the end of the day to ask how we liked hiked or what we thought we were doing off trail so much, or why we took a path we took. I was really cool and we'll do that again for the next major trip.

2. I created a Facebook page (yeh - that surprised even me). I set it up only for folks who live in our resort and would post every time we got to a new location and sometimes where we were headed. We would generally include a photo. The more primary reason for doing this was for the folks in our community (an RV/Traveler community/resort) to share their locations and to meet up when close. It works pretty well. To sign up to see it you have to answer some questions (notably your address) and I review the requests and select folks in our community only. And you are only allowed one post per stop with where you are (or going); I delete the (very few) posts not in line with that rule.

whew - this is as bad a blogging....... I hope it helps someone decide what works for them.
