Wifi Ranger with Verizon

I have a WiFi-Ranger SkyProV3 LTE + GPS Pack. I think it has an AT&T sim card inside. I have Verizon service for my phones. I think Verizon has the best service across the country. I would like to use Verizon as my LTE provider and add on a device to make that happen.

If you have this unit and use Verizon please tell me how you did it.

TIA

The WiFiRanger that you have is not certified for use on the Verizon network. That's not to say that you might not be able to get a Verizon SIM to operate in it, but its IMEI would not be on the list of approved devices and your service could be terminated without warning at any moment.

It can be used on either the AT&T or T-Mobile networks.

They both have bad service. Even worse out west in Montana & Wyoming. Would a external unit via USB work?

I have to take issue with you. Cellular service varies strongly by locality; there are plenty of places where AT&T is better than the others and even T-Mobile. My T-Mobile hotspots are operating on 5G at my home and the performance is quite good. As they say, it's all "location, location, location!"

If you had an indoor WiFiRanger you could tether a hotspot or phone using a USB cable. Unfortunately, your rooftop Sky4 doesn't have a USB port.

I don't take issue with you. Thank you for your opinion. I do have a connection for a USB mifi. God bless you.

With all due respect the Sky4 LTE doesn't have a USB port. However, if you also have an indoor router called a WiFiRanger Core, it does have a USB port that you could use for tethering a hotspot. You didn't mention that it your previous post.

Doc J, what is the delay in Verizon approval? as this seems to have been going on for almost a year. I worked in Telecom for 15+ years and never saw this kind of delay when handsets were being approved for network use... Please share why this is being delayed as some of us want to use our Verizon service.

Verizon's certification process is much more complex and expensive than that of the other major carriers. Each product containing a modem must be approved individually even though the modems, themselves, are all approved products manufactured by other companies.

At present the modem sold for the Teton rooftop router is approved for use on Verizon but that is the only WiFiRanger that is.

For those who wish to connect using Verizon we suggest you tether your hotspot or phone to an indoor WiFiRanger router either as part of a rooftop/indoor pair or in stand-alone mode. There is no significant performance difference between doing this compared to using an integrated modem.

Teton All In One WiFi Booster/LTE Prep & Antenna

My Rockwood 2511s is coming with a Teton All In One WiFi Booster/LTE Prep & Antenna. What does this actually do and with LTE prep what do I need to stream efficiently from cellular when WIFI isn't available or insufficient. I plan to use a projector outside the RV for movies/sports.

The device that will be installed on your trailer combines the basic WiFiRanger functions with an HDTV antenna which will also provide AM/FM reception.

As delivered it will be able to receive WiFi signals from sources such as park WiFi and retransmit them on a secure network inside your RV. It also has the capability of integrating an LTE (cellular) modem which you can purchase and install after you take delivery.

Here's the setup and user guide for the Teton router that you will have:

If the WFR integrated LTE modems are still just cat 6, tethering a current-generation mobile hotspot (cat 18 or better) would likely provide better performance than an integrated cat 6, especially if the tethered hotspot has an exterior antenna. Or am I missing something?

No, you are not missing something. The integrated modems provide easy cellular access for those with less demanding cellular needs. Those who are full-timers and/or those who use the internet for business purposes may want more technically advanced solutions which can easily be provided by tethered phones or hotspot devices.

Hey, last time I checked, we weren't able to tether iphones to the router via usb. A fix was in the works, do you have any update on that?
