WiFiRanger VPN not a true VPN, any alternatives?

A real VPN will hide your location.
WiFi ranger's Safe Surf feature does not hide my location, and WFR support confirmed that their VPN does not provide this basic feature.
BTW - I have a SKY4

So, I am in Canada, in the edge of nowhere (on the coast), and don't have a way to buy a hardware VPN. Do I have a software option?
I am trying to connect my ROKU stick, but of course, some of the services are blocked because of my location.

Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated in advance.

Thanks,
gordon

I am not that familiar with Roku, but on Firestick you can load a VPN, such as ExpressVPN as an app on the stick. I assume you can load a VPN app on the Roku.

This is what I use:

https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/

My GL.Net router has the profile added to it so all traffic is encrypted and your location will appear as the endpoint that you choose. You can use the GL.Net router between your computer and internet router as a separate Wi-Fi access point. Not all apps will allow VPN traffic, such as Netflix.

To my knowledge WiFiRanger SafeSurf provides a a VPN with an endpoint in Boise ID. That may not be sufficient for spoofing your location when in Canada, but I've had spotty results using other VPN's while visiting there. As I recall I had trouble with some streaming services the last time we visited Canada even when using Express VPN.

After you mentioned this, I looked to see if ROKU supports this...
It does not. No ablibty to add VPN to a ROKU streaming stick. I assume it is the same for all versions.

Score one for Firestick!

Even though they claim they use a server in Idaho, when I use a webservice that shows my location, it still said BC Canada. So no go with changing my location this way.

I had the Mango version of the gl,inet router. I have only used it for attaching to a Visible phone. (as you may have seen done on these forums)
BTW - the basic Visible plan does not work in Canada. You have to upgrade to Basic +. Problem is that it only provides .5GB of data. Sounds worthless to me.

I never have used it as a WiFi repeater, or any other features.

It supports openVPN. Installing Expressvpn was super easy. I was even able to do it after a cocktail. (not always easy for me)

The repeater works great. VPN works great.
The service that shows my location, shows LA CA, just as I selected.

All the apps that I have tried on my Roku stick work. Haven't tried them all.
Netflex works fine.

Wife is watching Guys Grocery Games here in Salmon Arm BC Canada.
All is right with the world.

Thanks for all you help!!!
