We've kept one of our original computers "just in case". Recently had to replace this part.

Hmmm....mine must be even older. I have to kindle a fire and wait for steam pressure to come up before it will boot!

I havew had several IT folks tell me to wait unit SP-1 is released before going with Vista. There are some issues with it right now.

Rusty, I have to fill my computer with kerosene and use a flint and steel to get it fired off every day.

I was reluctant to buy a new PC with Vista. A few weeks ago we were sorta forced to buy a new Laptop. The old one had been attacked by virus, yes I had a virus software installed). We bought a new HP 6510b business laptop with Vista Business on it. At first I didn't like it but once I figured out some short cuts ect I started to be quite at home with it. It's runs everything I need it to including my Verizon Broadband manager without hitch.

If I would have known in adavance all of the hardware that was not going to be compatable with Vista, I would not have bought the new laptop with the vista O/S installed. The "oh well thats the breaks" mindset is just what Gates wants you to believe. I am computer savy enough to know that it is very possible to make the Vista O/S compatable with XP if they wanted to. Microsoft just doesn't WANT to. It's all about $$$$$$.

He don't spend any time there anymore Bill, He retired and took all those millions before they came out with Vista this year. I had my old Compaq quit this summer so I had to buy another computer and it has vista home premium on it. That hp is...flaky!! I also got another Dell remanufactured that came with XP pro. Good computer. Put the home premium in it ands was rock stable. Makes that HP look like a real POS!!!! One problem with remanufactured units is sometimes you are not to sure whay you maybe getting. The paperwork said 80 gig hard drive and when they opened it up it says 40 gig. I was loading all of our digital pictures in and burning to new discs and trying to find some special pictures for my niece. It froze up and the hard drive runs till it starts loading up Vista...You can guess the rest!! I hope to have my Dell back this week as I miss it. I have several games in it that are from the 98 days, That it will play and this HP won't!!!
Moral of this little old story, Vista CAN be a very stable os, of a flaky one! It depends on the computer it is working with. If it is a chepo..it will be flaky like this HP. If it is a good brand like my Dell, Then it seems to be more stable than XP, SP2! Right now It could come back to me with XP Pro back in it but Yes, I will reinstall it back into that computer. See ,I did the work and it paid me back while my other half has problems with the death screen,[Blue screen of death]. I have taken this one and wiped it clean and reinstalled the Vista software back into this one and it still won't work right. It doesn't play well with anything older than Vista and I have changed a bunch of settings to try. But to no use..Its a expensive paperweight!! mine goes into Hyper drive when needed to, Hers has trouble Just trying to load up.....

I bought a new Gateway laptop w/Vista last summer. Then found out none of my hardware would work with it.
A friend of ours spent many, many hours converting back to XP. Now me and all my hardware are happy. The friend isn't but we are. lol

The problem With the Vista is it really didn't have much time in Beta to really test it. I still don't know why they were in such a hurry to get it out. Now that XP SP3 is coming by spring and SP1 for The Vista OS too. If they had just finished up the SP3 for XP and got the bugs and drivers for the Vista out first before introducing it to the public.I decided to wait till the new sp1 for Vista comes out before reinstalling it because this computer is acting up a little. I wonder what kind of HD they installed into this machine anyway. It has..Hiccups at times with the cursor and some programs when first started.I may have to put it back in the shop,..again...

I currently own 2 MACs and 1 PC. One of the MACs was purchased in 1999!! and still works just fine for most of my needs - but when I upgrade it will be to a new MAC. I never have had a problem with crashing, virus protection (don't even have to have it with a MAC) and never had to install (and re-install several times) a SP-1 or 2 - just simple updates downloaded from the web. MACs are SO much more simple and FUN to use. BTW, my one PC (Gateway) is a POS and as soon as I can get some photos off it will go to the junk pile. So, no, I won't be "upgrading" to VISTA.

I see no need to upgrade from XP at this time. More than serves my purpose. The only time I really upgrade is when I purchase a new Computer. So far no need.

I'm with Miles.

No need to upgrade. If I buy a new computer, then I'll have Vista.
