Windows 7 question
I just bought a new notebook with Windows 7. I installed programs that are not compatible with Windows 7. I tried using the uninstall feature in Control Panel. There are 2 Program File folders on the C drive, one of which is labeled "Program Files (x86)". I can't uninstall any files in this folder. I can only access the folder "Program Files" Any assistance would be appreciated.

You must have the 64 bit version installed. The x86 folder is for 32 bit programs. It is not just for programs you improperly installed, though they may have ended up there too.

This is correct you've installed windows 64 bit version and x86 will stay in there for you to run 32 bit programs, please don't try to uninstall, any 32 bit programs you install will not work.I've got both versions and the 64 bit version is better, but most programs are 32 bit.You can uninstall any program that will not work in your control panel uninstall programs section. All your programs will show up there,x86 is not a program its windows its self,x86 is mostly for older single core processors and again is 32 bit most new computers are dual core and need 64 bit processing.

I have a 3 year old HP laptop using Vista and I think it is 32 bit. Without getting too technical can anyone explain what 32 bit & 64 bit actually mean and how they are different? Is this like asking why any airplane can fly?
Thanks, I'm very computer illeterate and trying to understand the little monsters.

The terms 32-bit and 64-bit refer to the way a computer's processor (also called a CPU), handles information. The 64-bit version of Windows handles large amounts of random access memory (RAM) more effectively than a 32-bit system, your HP is going to have a 32 bit processor,(Intel) single core. This is a good processor and has been for a long time.Newer laptop and desktop computers are for the most part dual core, meaning they can handle more then one job at a time and are 64 bit.Windows Vista and Windows 7 come in 32 and 64 bit,and like I stated above the 64 bit is faster.

My favorite Hoyle board games won't work on my new laptop & according to Hoyle's website, they don't have any that are compatable either.

When access to a folder or file is denied, you MIGHT be able to gain control by "taking ownership."
This worked for me in Win XP and Vista and it works on my 2 WIN 7 computers now.
I attached the instructions.
