Do you have Direct TV or Dish?
If it's Direct all you can get with it is SD.

With Dish you can get HD but you may have to change from one satellite to another to get everything.
Maybe a Dish guy will step in with the info.

Dish

As far as I know only Dish offers the pay as you go feature.

Moving a manual dish to receive half of your channels will eventually wear you down and for that reason I would go with an portable automatic, like the Dish Tailgator, and a Dish receiver. IF you want HD.

If you're happy with SD and don't want to be moving the dish for half your channels then DirecTV is the better choice. It's easy to share/move a receiver from home to RV and back. Extra receivers are $5 a month. I think DTV has some programming that Dish doesn't.

Good luck with it!
