Does anyone know for sure?

SIM card is in the unit that mounts on roof.

Sim and software

Verizon should be able to send you the correct Sim card or you can usually get one at their stores. Right now you need an older version of the software for it to work until they finish updating a patch for verizon. We installed ours and couldn't get it to work on Verizon. Verizon even sent us two sim cards with no luck then I got a email from Winegard with and old version of the software. With that version it locked right up to my Verizon Data Plan with no issues since. Not sure why they don't post that!!

Yes, Verizon will give you a SIM card. The one from a JetPack would not fit, so not having one is not a problem.

The problem is getting the Winegard on your data plan. The only current plan that VZW show will work with the ConnecT 2 is an 8 gig/mo for $50/mo. I screamed and hollered until I got a supervisor who went the extra mile for me and got us on a retired plan called "The Verizon New Unlimited Plan" The device went on that plan along with our phones. Cost being $110/mo for the plan plus $20/mo for each phone or device. That was good for up to 22 gig/mo per device.

I just dropped that plan and decided not to use the cellular portion of the Winegard. I got on the VZW prepaid unlimited data plan with a JetPack and will have the Winegard connect to that when/if I am not using local WiFi. Not an elegant solution, but one that will give me more data for work and streaming.

I assume you know that Verizon now offers a prepaid completely unlimited plan for Jetpacks that costs $70/mo with a $5 discount for automatic payment. Even though it is more expensive then having a "regular" postpaid unlimited plan (with either 15GB or 22GB's) its a lot better deal if you need lots of data.

Winguard come to version

I have the above setup. I need two things answered. 1) can this be improved to version 2 without buying the new one. 2) do you need a separate firewall ie router to use cat 6 devices with the version 1. Currently I have the internal lead going to a hub and three devices connected but I haven’t found a way to configure the non WiFi side so I’m thinking the best way is run the internal lead to the router.is that correct?

I'm not with Winegard but I can tell you that the Version 1 and Version 2 systems are totally different and there is probably no (simple) upgrade path.

Do you have a copy of the old version of the 4G modem software? I'm waiting for a callback from Winegard but the first two techs that I spoke with were unaware of this work-around.
I am getting a "Limited" connection from my Verizon Unlimited Data Plan right now and Verizon's only solution is adding a new data plan for $60/month for 10GBs which is ridiculous. If I cannot get the Winegard added on my current plan for $20/month like I had planned then I should have just purchased the WiFi only version of the Connect 2.0 and used a Verizon Jetpack instead.

I have the old and the current one that is suppose to work. Which files do you have. It should be either wgex-both-20181038.bin or wgex-both-20180833.bin. Either one of those should work with Verizon.

My current firmware is wgex-both-20180838.bin. I am unable to connect to my Verizon plan with the current setup. Do you mind if I ask if you're paying $20/month for an "unlimited" data line or is it a $60/month for 10GB kind of plan?

Wow getting a plan from Verizon is extremely difficult. I started out a couple days ago on chat with Verizon and after 3 hours and 4 chat techs no plan offered would work with Winegard. They would recognize the IMEI number and confirm that it would work on Verizon but when they went to select a plan nothing was available in either a prepaid or post pay. Next day I called and spoke to at least another 4 different techs and was told same thing. They transferred me from regular consumer plans to business plan Dept to finally their automobile WiFi group(like onstar). Still nothing. I emailed Winegard and they said sorry not my problem. Thanks Winegard for the false advertising then. If they wanted to be the good Rv friendly company that they should be how about getting with At&t and Verizon and work with them to come up with a plan that actually will work with this equipment. My final try was to go to the local Verizon store. I initially got the same answer that no plan available. The rep then got the idea to have the system sell me a jet pack plan prepaid and unlimited ($70) plus a new SIM card. The system thought I bought a jet pack and then he returned it I think. Anyway I’m about to crawl up on the roof today to insert SIM card and see if it works. I will keep everyone posted. We should all really give Winegard some c#@p for not working better with cell service companies about this.

My experience with Verizon has been very similar. When I paid an extra $150 for the WiFi/LTE model I expected it to easily add to my current phone plan since it "works with Verizon." After hours on web chat, on the phone and in Verizon stores it appears Winegard has not taken the steps necessary to successfully connect to the Verizon network like a jetpack. I too tried the jetpack workaround by adding my parent's old jetpack to my plan and moving its SIM to the Winegard but Verizon just won't recognize the Winegard and I end up with "Limited Connectivity". I hope your attempt yields a better result. Perhaps Winegard will do their homework and release an update that will fix the problem.

I had previously installed the SIM from my MiFi into the Winegard and it worked with no issues. Then earlier this week, Tuesday I believe, it stopped working. Called Verizon and explained everything to multiple agents and the only answer I got was that Verizon pushed an update to their system and now the Winegard system cannot “activate” the SIM even though it was previously activated. For now, I’ve gone back to using the MiFi and have the Winegard connected to the MiFi. Definitely not what I intended when I purchased the LTE model.

Well I installed my new Verizon SIM card and updated my software to the latest version and I get “Denied 4g/LTE access”. I guess it’s back to the phone with Verizon.[emoji35]

All,

The current software build should resolve any Verizon 4G connectivity issues. To verify you have the most current build, you can use the dropdown at the bottom of the main interface screen and go to About. It will show the model number, software version and bootloader version.

The most current build for software is WGEX-20181038. If you are not showing this, you can update the software by connecting to an alternate source, such as a WiFi network, and navigating to the Update Software section.

If you do show the proper software build and are still having issues connecting, please let me know.
