Winegard Minimax problems

I have a Winegard minimax in-motion on my rv, last weekend I bought a 211z receiver and spent a few hours setting it up. I had a few conversations with Dish technical support but I got it all worked out and it does acquire a signal when parked. (Gosh it's noisy)

When I start to drive, the signal will cut in and out a few times a minute or more. It cuts out too often to be of any benefit to have an in-motion for the spouse.

I did not buy the Minimax, it was already on the roof when we got the RV.

Anyone with these same difficulties? What did you do to remedy it, if at all?

Also, when using your rv, do you leave the antenna and receiver turned on and just turn off the tv? If I turn off the 12v power supply to the antenna it has to go through a startup sequence every time it powers up, it can take a little while to acquire a new signal and then it goes through a "washing machine" cycle for 6 minutes before going to sleep. This cycle is a rapid orbital movement of the dish and is quite annoying when parked. What's up with that?

The long search cycle is normal for the in-motion when you first turn it on, at least for my Winegard RoadTrip. I don't use it in motion so I can't address your first question, but on the second you have to leave it turned on since you are on DISH network. DISH uses three satellites for signals, so when you change channels it has to change satellites if it is broadcast on a different one. If you turn off the receiver, the antenna will occasionally "hunt" and change satellites for some reason. I contacted Winegard and they said that is normal. The solution is what you have already found and what I do, just leave the receiver turned on and turn the TV off.

Like you, I did not install it as it came with the new motor home. My choice would have been the triple LNB Travelr, which I may change to at some point.

We use the Winegard Roadtrip in motion dome with Directtv.

Like any other in-motion dome, the signal will be lost if the dome cannot "see" the satellite.

Hard turns (changes in travel direction) in rapid succession will confuse the dome as well.

Travel near tall building, tall trees, high hills and under bridges will interrupt the signal.

We leave the antenna on during travel, unless the route encounters too much signal obstruction. Just the TV gets turned off.

The reason we have the in-motion is to record the DW's daytime shows while traveling so she has entertainment while in the RV park. Football games get recorded also.
