winegard traveler hd satellite dish for direct tv question

We are buying a Thor Tuscany 40bx that lists this dish as standard equipment. We use Dish tv currently as our supplier and would like to keep it. Can it be converted to use with Dish tv.

Ours had a direct dish. The dealer just swapped the "Dish" itself. Did not have to change the mounting. I believe four bolts on the arm and reattach the coax. Should be simple. Course you need a dish receiver. Longer to climb on top than to swap.

Here's a link for the parts you'll need. Note the qualifying requirements for the conversion, as explained in the link. The parts required may be available from other sources, and possibly at a lower price.

Converting TRAV'LER DIRECTV to TRAV'LER DISH | RV Satellite Systems

Hope that helps!

Thanks-mechanically it seems ok. The other stuff looks tedious and easily messed up. I may have to negotiate a swap at the dealership.

rccrafters69, I got the kit from Winegard and did the swap myself. Not a bad DIY project. You will also have to remove the DirecTV SWM splitter and power inserter and install some coax splice connectors for the cables going to the dish receivers.

rccrafters69,
Stand your ground with the dealer & tell him/her that's what it's going to take to make you a happy camper.

I've been a Dish customer for 10+ yrs with a 722 DVR and a 1000.2 manual setup dish on the ground. One yr ago I installed a Winegard Travel'r and just love it. I spend most of my time in the West and South and it's easy to get all channels. Dish on-line chat makes it quick & easy to get local hd channels.

Thanks to members on this forum, I learned how to get the Winegard to lock on to eastern sat 72. So now that I'm up here in the northeast, I still get all my hd channels but no locals. If you value locals more, dial in sat 61 and the other cable channels will be standard definition.

Anyway, if you haven't taken delivery yet, you should have some bargaining power to get what you need. It's not a lot of high dollar parts, more tech time which the dealer can afford.

Good luck,
Bill

A point to consider.

If you convert the existing antenna from DirecTV to Dish, you still have the option in the future convert it back if you decide to switch.

If you have them swap out the whole antenna, you are then locked into Dish Network, as the SK-1000 cannot be converted to DirecTV HD.

Back from the look at the Tuscany. It looks like I have to convert myself. I thought there was a link on how to convert from Direct to dish. Can't see it anywhere. Anyone have the link?

I ordered the conversion parts today. We take delivery on Sept.8th. I want it working before our first trip. I'll take the Pathway 2 in case we are in trees.
