For all intents and purposes the SK-1000 can't be converted to anything else.

Those are correct TechWriter.

The SK-1000 can be converted. It would be converted back to the SK-3003, and there would be no high definition if you did so. Parts needed are RP-SK63, and RP-SK33. Total for both is $324.99.

You know, I had that in the back of my mind, and thought I was wrong... LOL.

I just can't come up with a logical reason to make this conversion. I think DTV has vacated 110, and 119 only has the remaining SD locals. Couln't you manually point the SK-1000 to 101? That would give you everything in SD except the SD locals on 119, without doing the conversion and spending the money..

Can I get more info about these kits (and the other ones) -- components, installation guides? I can't find anything on Winegard's web site.

I have an SK 3005 (non-SWM) on my Journey that I installed several years ago. When I installed the SK 3005 I ran two cables from the dish on the roof to the receiver cabinet. I have now converted my main TV to an HD TV. I would like to change my Direct TV receiver to an HDR version from the current SD one.

As near as I can tell, I only need a Direct TV HR24 receiver and two B band converters to replace the current SD receiver box. Is this correct? I have already run an HDMI cable from the TV to where the receiver will go. I am only trying to connect to a single TV.

Is it better to order from Directv or Winegard? I have been a Directv customer for 7 years. Will my monthly cost will also increase by $20.00 per month as well?

Yet another conversion question . . .

Can you convert the SK-7003 to a SK-1000? If not, are there instructions for switching out just the turrets? I would really like to keep from breaking the seal on the coach?

I was told 2 years ago when considering a purchase that a Direct TV Travlr can be retrofitted to Dish but a Dish Travlr cannot be converted to DirectTV. I think it is primarily because of the antenna feeds on the base of the antenna.

That is correct. I used an HR23 just like that for a few years. I bought my HR24's at home, and my Genie HR44 for the coach, from Weaknees. At the time Directv could not guarantee which model I would receive. Weaknees could. The HR44 is MUCH smaller than the HR34 model. The HR24 was also smaller than previous units, which was more important to me than paying a slightly higher fee. As an existing customer, Directv might give you a credit towards the difference.

(Please note, you are LEASING the unit even if you get it elsewhere. You are not "buying" it. If you cancel, they may ask for the unit to be sent back.)

Get the B band converters from Directv. They provided them free, and quickly.

Directv charges a DVR monthly fee. (Not sure the current amount for this fee, probably around $10/mo.) If you don't currently have a DVR on your account, your bill will go up by this amount. If you already have one DVR, it won't go up adding a second one. There is also a receiver monthly fee. If you are replacing another receiver with the DVR, you will break even if you deactivate the old receiver. If you don't deactivate the old one, there will be a new monthly receiver fee added.

The Shaw version of the Travler CAN NOT be converted TO or FROM any other model. Shaw is Shaw and Shaw only.

Yes you can swap them at the transition plate, without affecting the seal to the roof.

UPDATE
I removed nine screws, unscrewed two coaxial connections, one GPS connection, and unclipped one data cable. I lifted off the Shaw turret the old seal and replaced both with my new SK-1000. I reassembled everything, powered it up and Shazam! I am the newest Dish customer. It took about thirty minutes and I didn't have to break the seal on the roof of my coach. AWESOME

Oh yeah, I have a complete Shaw Trav'ler system if someone is in need of such a device.

Results are in:

The Directv installer came out was able to successfully install the HR24 using the 2 B band converters without any changes to my older version SK 3005 being required. He did go through a number of B band converters to finally get it to work. It took two brand new ones in the end. The used ones all seemed to fail at some point in the spectrum of signal points.

Converting Trav'ler sk-swm3 to Dish.

I just purchased a new (to me) 2013 winnebago sightseer and it has a Trav'ler sk-swm3. Winegard tech said I could convert to dish by buying and installing a couple of parts for close to $300.00.
My question is how hard an complicated is the conversion job. Can the average person that can turn a wrench do this job? I know very little about these antennas. I am in contract with dish is the reason I want to convert.
