Hopefully by the time Microsoft ends support for W 8.1 Jan 10, 2023 , they will have all the problems with W10 solved. If I'm still alive, my computers and peripherals will all be 10 years old, and replacements will come with W10 a stable reliable OS (I hope).

How fast was your connection? Don't remember the total time, however it wasn't close to that long. I would have gone crazy for something that took that long.

You must have started the update yourself. Typically, that update comes to you in pieces and gets loaded on your computer in background. Only when it is totally downloaded do you get the prompt, "Do you want to update?". That must have been some experience.
