YouTubeTV Commercial Volume

Has anyone noticed a lack of consistent volume? Some commercials come on so loud is is not only annoying but very disturbing.

I logged on to their website and asked about it in their feedback area - and of course heard nothing back.

Am I the only one? I am considering dumping their service over it.....

They go by the same reasoning as regular tv. You will get up and go get something during a commercial so they raise the volume so you can hear it while you are gone.

This is way more than that. It is actually painful to the ears. No other streaming service has this issue. I find it hard to believe that it is a problem with my TV setup. Also I have noticed that is happens every time certain commercials play.....

Well - What do you know. I checked my TV settings and there is a volume stabilization feature. I turned it on and now will wait and see if this solves this annoying problem.

Thank You Mr. Martian !!

It may work and then it may not.
Yes, I find the volume differences on youtube annoying.

OP here. Set the leveling feature on the TV and tried YouTube TV for only about 45 minutes. It seems to have done the trick. Although I don't remember any of the worst offending commercials airing during that time period.

Bottom line - cautiously optimistic!!

On cable TV, it seemed like they were increasing the volume but they actually raise different frequencies to get them louder and still stay within FCC rules.

The leveling worked well but wasn't perfect.

I wonder if YouTube TV is actually covered by those FCC rules.

I was wondering the same thing. My guess is they are not regulated the same way - either that or their TV interface is even worse than it appears. Hard the fathom

Pay for no commercials.
They gave me 3 free months and I got spoiled.
I watch a lot of history and lectures so it helps.
I was getting too many commercials, had to do something, so o paid them
Worth every penny if you watch lots of YouTube, even their free movies are commercial free.
$12/ month
I watch more YouTube than Netflix so I’m happy

The OP was referring to YouTubeTV, not regular YouTube. But yeah, I agree with you, no-commercial YouTube for $12/month is the only way to go.

Back to the YpuTubeTV commercial issue, it's common for broadcast commercial producers to heavily compress the audio to make it sound louder. It might be that YouTubeTV itself has nothing to do with the volume levels, rather they are just passing on what is coming from the broadcast source.

I know you've already found your solution with sound leveling on the TV, but I figured I'd give my experience anyway (for others). I use YouTubeTV every year for about 6 months as it's the best way for me to stream my local baseball team. We have 4 TVs including the one in the RV. I've never turned on sound leveling and I don't find the commercials to be especially loud. I don't know if it's just specific commercials for your area that I don't get in my area... or if it's all commercials.

I did a quick search and found some folks on Reddit complaining about it, so it's definitely not just you or your area.

You're not the only one

I definitely noticed the loud commercials and was aggravated, during my Youtube TV TRIAL - Which I cancelled.

I remember thinking hmm, I'm pretty sure they made a law about that in the 90's about this - because they were trying to be sneaky. I Hate, Hate, HATEEEEE ADVERTISING as it is, and feel like the lines have been crossed way too far, every day companies are trying to find new ways to advertise / and annoy us, even if we're paying for the content.

Well, I looked it up, and yes, there's definitely restrictions in place by the FCC, but it says 2011 when made into law, going into effect 2012... Strange.

Quote:
Federal Communications Commission (FCC or Commission) rules require commercials to have the same average volume as the programs they accompany. In the Commercial Advertisement Loudness Mitigation (CALM) Act, Congress directed the FCC to establish these rules, which went into effect on December 13, 2012.
But here are all the rules:
https://www.fcc.gov/media/policy/loud-commercials

edit: I just saw that it does not apply to streaming, but only TV that is aired /cable/sat. - So of course companies take advantage of it. smh.

Q: Do these rules also apply to radio commercials or commercials on the Internet? A: No, the CALM Act only applies to commercials aired on television.
