YouTubeTV Local Channels

If you subscribe to YouTubeTV do you get the same local channels as you travel out of the area?

I would guess yes, but do not know how RV friendly they are. In he Seattle area, but will be full time shortly. Like those Seahawks so getting the local Seattle stations wherever we are is important. And watching the local news of a city destroying itself is cringe worthy but "train wreck" fascinating at the same time.....

You can source the programming to whatever area you are currently located in. In my summer travels I updated mine several times.

Not sure what you are saying - sorry.

Does that mean you can keep your local channels wherever you are, or are you saying that you have to update you location to receive the local channels from the area where you are parked?

Would like to keep the Seattle area stations wherever we are, but is that possible?

We have it and we do get our local channels from home when we travel. I have not tried to change it to get the local channels where we are staying, I can use the OTA antenna for that.

Perfect - I appreciate the response. THAT is EXACTLY what I wanted to hear.

I figured since it was internet based completely that would be the case. But DirecTV blathered for years about FCC regulations and the like so was a little concerned. I'm sure there was something to it, but ever since AT&T took over, didn't believe a word they said.

With all due respect the FCC rules do apply to YouTube TV. If you are away from your home area long enough (~30 days) you will no longer be able to view live programming from your local stations. However, you will be able to view all your recorded programs and they will continue to be recorded from the network feeds of your local stations.

This happened to us when we were traveling last summer. After a while, rather than "fight" with the messages I was receiving about not being in my home area, I changed my "home city" from Corpus Christi to Houston or Dallas which I could access through ExpressVPN. That made the system happy until we returned home and changed it back to Corpus Christi. I think you're allowed 2 changes of home location per year.

Thanks for the clarification. As long as I can record the football games and play them back, that would work for me.

Just have to make sure I get all the recording options set. Nothing is ever as simple as it should be I guess. As long as I can dump DirecTV I will be a happy camper!!

Thanks again

Once you get used to the fact that your DVR capacity is infinite, I find we mark lots more things to record "just in case" we want to watch them!

Docj is correct about being out your home area, happened to us also.

Not to hijack this thread but, I have cancelled the service because of the price change to $65. Just felt it was to much when I can stream my internet carrier, xfinity. Having to pay for xfinity and youtubeTV just got to costly

Have many of you also cancelled since the price increase last month

There were a number of new channels added at the time of the price increase. IMO adding Comedy Central was a plus since we like to watch Trevor Noah.

IMHO, I'd rather apply that $15 to YTTV and drop HBO since we find ourselves watching it less and less.

If they only let you change your address twice a year, what happens if you travel full time? Odds are pretty high we will be in at least three different markets during that time - likely many more. What would they do?

Not familiar with ExpressVPN but as a work around, seems OK. Does kind of defeat the desire to maintain access to my Seattle channels however

When we travel I have no interest in changing my local channels to the area where we are parked. I never did that when we had DirecTV and I don't intend to start doing that now. If I want local weather or news I can use the internet. JMO

Everyone is different I guess. I enjoy getting the local news and weather broadcasts when traveling. So I updated my location each time I’m in a new area. Don’t give a hoot about seeing my home channels while on the road. Luckily YouTube TV can support both of us.

Just to throw this out there...........Our Dish receiver has an app called LoCast and it is available outside of Dish.

It is a $5 a month donation to this non-profit organization that allows u to view our home (PHX) stations while on the road. Yes we can change the locals with Dish very easily and do which gives us access to local news/weather but LoCast gives us the ability to check out our home stations while on the road. I believe they are re-broadcasting many local markets, recommend you google and see what you can find
