3 year old Suburban water heater failure

Wow, was not ready for this. A corroded tank and defective weld on a 3.5 year old rig. I know there is typically a 1 year warranty but I'm going to contact them to see if they can help pay the bill because this is not even close to normal useful life or is it?? Wish me luck

It appears you're based in Florida , so potential freezing would not be the cause of the weld failing .

If Suburban doesn't offer to help with the replacement , It appears to be repairable . It looks like surface rust , which is easily removed , and any weld shop can clean and reweld the failed area .

I had a tank welded after a seam split from the tank freezing .

It's an inexpensive fix and as good as replacing the HW heater.

That happened to one of my Suburban water heaters after about 4 or 5 years. I had to replace it in a campground while in Kamloops, CA.

Stuff happens.

Suburban Tanks are NOT repairable.......they are steel BUT glass-lined
Glass lining is sprayed in after welding is done
Any welding done later will destroy the glass lining and just cause more corrosion/rusting

**Atwood Aluminum tanks can be welded/repaired
Suburban doesn't even offer replacement tanks

That picture is showing the bottom of tank (wh is upside down)
Did leak occur at cold or hot inlet?
