30 amp to 50 amp surge protector location

Outlet is 30 amp. I want to use a 30 amp extension cord to my 50 amp cord on the rv. Is it better to plug a surge protector into the outlet or between the two cords? Does it make a difference?

Surge guards function on line voltage not amperage , location in the circuit shouldn't be a factor .

More importantly :

Is that 30A outlet a properly wired outlet for 120VAC or is it a 240VAC outlet??
30A 120VAC....3 wires
1 Black HOT
1 White Neutral
1 Green/Bare Ground

30A 240VAC
1 Black Hot
1 Red Hot
1 White Neutral
(2 hots and no ground wire)---used for Welder/Electric Dryer etc
WILL Burn up the electronics/motors in your RV

Only ASSUME it is a "single hot"/120 VAC at your own risk. This is by far the most mis-wired connection by home electricians.

I would VERIFY, as 30 amp house outlets are 240 VAC and that would "let the smoke out of your RV appliances.

Use your voltmeter between each of the outlet holes. Readings should be either 120 VAC or 0 VAC (0 between neutral and ground).
