7.5 Onan diesel won’t crank-flashes #32
My 7.5 KW quietdiesel will not crank and flashes a code 32–which indicates “low or no cranking speed”.
I checked the starter and solenoid by jumping the solenoid terminal to the battery positive and the starter began cranking-so I know the starter and solenoid are OK. When you hold down the toggle switch on the genset as if to start-you can hear a rapid clicking sound from behind the front cover.
As I understand, there are 4 electronic control boards under the front panel of the generator and one of them controls the starter.
Without the Onan software and patch cord to access the data link, I don’t know how to go about diagnosing and repairing the problem.
Does anyone have any other ideas or am I correct?

Do you have a battery boost button that links your house and chassis batteries together. You may try using it and try starting the generator. If you generator starts off of the house batteries and they are low it may not be enough to crank the generator for starting.
I've had to start the engine and let batteries charge before generator would start.

Thank for the reply, but that isn’t my problem.
I jumped the starter from the positive terminal coming into genset to the starter solenoid and the starter cranked over so that negates a low battery situation. My problem lies elsewhere.

A quick update—after exhausting the possibilities that I knew, I took the motor home to Cummins Power South and they lightened my wallet by $6,100 but now the genset runs like a champ

Watching this as I have the same issue but on a 7kW gas. $6100 would pay for a decent portable generator and years of gas and maintenance for it.

They had to replace the fuel transfer pump, barometric pressure sensor and rotor and stator assembly. Their labor was more than the price of parts. There was also a big diagnostic charge and several other miscellaneous charges that brought the price to $6,100.
