7500 Onan Generator wont turn off

I just got my RV out of winter storage and initially the generator wouldn't start, not even crank. Once I started the RV the Generator started fine. I turned it off about 15 minutes later while the engine was running using the switch inside the Coach. When I got home and was de-winterizing the coach, I flipped the generator back on to test some things. Anyway, about three hours later when I was finished I tried to turn off the generator using the switch again and it wouldn't turn off. I finally killed power to the coach by turning off the Aux Battery power switch and the generator shut down. I haven't had this happen before. Any ideas?

I suspect a corroded wire on the 4 wire harness from the cab to the genny. Pull that harness from the genny and clean all connections. Also check for a broken wire in the harness itself. Failing that, could be a bad rocker switch in the cab, or bad wire/connection there. However, most problems are usually at the genny.

As an update, all my house batteries were shot. They froze over the winter. I replaced them all last night and I am hoping once fully charged the gen will turn off. The mechanic suspected the gen wouldn't turn off because it inew the batteries were dead. I will check tonight and post the update.

Its been a rough spring on the fleetwood. Lots of issues but the good news I am learning a lot about the beast.

Just had to replace the Controller Board in my 7500 Onan Generator. One off the problem the mechanic at Cummins was telling me is that the connector at the generator for the Dash switch get moisture in them and corrode. This connector is on the front passenger side of the generator outside the covers. Did you try shutting it down at the generator switch on the unit itself, if it work alright there, that mean that your problem is external. If it does not work at the Generator switch on the unit, the problem is internal and the top cover will have to be remove. If your Generator on a slide, it no problem to remove the top panel, however it fix like mine, it a bit harder to remove. Once remove the Control Board is at the front and have two 8 pins connector cable attach to it, remove the connector carefully because there a rubber oil ring and a orange pin separator that can fall off went you release the holding clip, just make sure one of your hand is underneath the connector went you pull it off so the oil ring or the orange pin separator don't fall down in the generator case, which would be really hard to pick up again. Now after removing the plug in connectors check for corrosion or moister, if there is, a good electrical spray cleaner with a nylon bush would work to clean it out. This all sound like a big Job, but if you are on a slide, it not that bad. Best of luck. Joe
