93 American Eagle alternator question

I'm so new to the group that I might be posting this in the wrong area. Recently with the help of this group i was able to order and replace the alternator for the 8.0 onan generator. After doing so, i noticed that the alternator was not charging the battery quick enough. The fan that cools the radiator is no longer on any sort of sensor. The guy I bought it from said that when you are parked you have to flip an aftermarket switch and let the fan run nonstop if you're running the generator. I will tackle that issue soon. So, I bypassed what I'm going to call the voltage regulator ( I know I'm probably wrong). Once I did that the alternator charged the battery quickly. Attached is the photo of what I bypassed.

Different question: what temperature should the fan come on and go off at. I'm looking at a sensor that measures the temperature of the coolant through the radiator hose. Thanks in advance.

That looks like a thermal self resetting fuse dipped in plastadip.
You should be able to to get all the info and parts breakdown, even repair and diognostic manuals . You use the extra letters for your model generator, because they carried same names and wattage but the series will get you the proper one made in certain years.
