97 Dutchmen Classic GL A/C trip breaker only if thermostat set on AUTO

Hi!

First sorry English is not my first language.

So, like subject says, A/C trip the 20 amp breaker BUT only seems to do so when thermostat is set to AUTO!

I already bought a watchdog plugged into our 30 amp pedestal feed,(learning curve on managing power as our it is our first time in a RV).

Running A/C with 2 fridge, consuming 14.6 amps with compressor, on 118 to 114 volts.

I already checked on roof and the A/C condenser is clean albeit very old, unit cooling is also fine.

In not sure if it could be the capacitor, basically did a bunch of research, but did not find anything on a/c blowing break on AUTO settings!

note: outside its 26C (78.8F) 71% humidity.

note2: when compressor restart i hit 42amps at pedestal!!

I would appreciate some input!

thank you!

Leave the fan in the on position.
That will lessen the surge that is tripping the breaker. Also it is good white noise if you leave pets in the RV while you are out.

Everything appears to be normal. Currents and voltages reported seem to be normal.

Assuming the pedestal breaker does not trip and 20 amp A/C branch breaker does trip:

1) 20 amp circuit breaker may be weak. It should hold 42 amp starting current for a few seconds. I am not sure of the exact time.

2) The motor may be taking too long to come up to speed. If so, breaker should trip. Replace A/C. It would be cheaper to replace the starting capacitor even if it is unlikely it will fix things.

3) Three compressor motors starting at the same time on the same 20 amp circuit should trip the circuit breaker. Rewire to put other motors on a different circuit. A/C should be on a dedicated circuit.
