A/C compressor start capacitor question??
I need an electrical savy person out there to help me figure out an A/C question. First off....I have a Coleman TSR 6750 series A/C and my RV has 30 amp electrical system. My AC compressor quit running yesterday but the fan still runs. I pulled the shroud and electrical cover to check the capacitors and right away, I saw that my compressor start capacitor was blown to pieces...literally! I can read almost everything on the side of the capacitor and it says....88-108 MFD 250 VAC 60hz. I found one online through Grainger but they list two... One is 120VAC for $6.87 and the other is 250VAC (like the one that was blown up) for $12.87. My question is if my electrical system is 30 amp (everything runs off of 120 volts including the A/C), should not the correct capacitor be 120 VAC? I opened up the other working A/C for the bedroom and it was also a 250VAC start capacitor and both look as if they are as old as the RV which, by the way , is a 1985 Elandan. I am leaning towards the 250VAC capacitor because that is what is in the running A/C in the back and is what was in the front A/C. Both A/C's have been working fine for the last year with those capacitors so I guess I am curious as to why it is 250 VAC and not 120 VAC.
