A/C Thermostat Issue?

Hi all,

Last summer I replaced our Coleman Mach rooftop unit - new one worked fine. Now this year, on our last trip the A/C unit cooled fine, but sometimes the unit would "short cycle" - that is, start cooling and then shut off a minute or so later. But then next cycle would be normal length.

This trip it has done the same thing, but now it also will run far past when it should have shut off based on the thermostat setting. I can even slide the temp setting to 90 and the unit sometimes still won't shut off. Today we came back & it was an arctic zone indoors.

I'm figuring the Coleman thermostat is going bad...and that's going to be my first replacement unless someone has other advice...

Anybody?

Thanks!

It certainly sounds like the thermostat has gone bad, unless there is a short in the wiring somewhere. Try disconnecting the thermostat while the AC is running to see if it stops.

Not familiar with the Coleman installation but on Dometic/Duo-Therm a "short cycle" is usually an air leak between the cold side (outlet) and the warm side (inlet). Try removing the ceiling garnish and have a look at the seals (usually aluminum tape). Just because the unit was replaced does NOT mean it was resealed correctly.
