not sure ill be able to get voltage since it jumps to 19 doesnt step and cycles off in 2 seconds

Im not sure I can check the voltage. It stays at 10-12 amps for about 1-2 minutes then jumps to 19 A and compressor cycles off. Curiously, the fan on the thermostat is set to auto and after the compressor cycles off it keeps running instead of cycling off.

Compressor is bad.

Compressor is shutting down on thermal overload....fan stays running cause shut down is not a power trip or tstat shutdown.
It is the compressor shutting down

Totally agree. The compressor will be very hot. The bearings have worn out allowing the rotor to rub against the stator creating friction that increases the heat to the point the compressor trips out on an internal overload imbedded in the windings. The fan continuing to run is normal.

Thank you for your help. I had pretty much determine that when it originally happened so not a real surprise. In fact if the ACs had been cheaper I would have just bought one. Living and camping in Texas, it will be nice to have a new AC!!
