Adding Circulation Fan to Freezer

Has anyone added a circulation fan to their Freezer to improve its ability to freeze contents top to bottom?

Hi Paul, what frig do you have. I had a 1200 'Never Cold" and added a fan in the frig compartment to keep things equally cold, it worked but I still never had sufficient temps in the freezer compartment.

I added a single 12 volt 4" computer case fan in the fridge, mounted at an angle at the right corner of the drip pan just below the thermister in my Dometic fridge. I wired it to the power line to the interior light before the light switch so that it has power whenever the fridge is turned on. I didn't check freezer temps before I added that fan but is makes the fridge temps more consistent throughout the interior and freezer is now in the -2* to -3* range except on really hot days.

Fan in Dometic Fridge

I have a 1292 side by side dometic.

JC Refrigeration installs a dual fan pointing at the refrigerator fins when they install a new cooling unit in a dometic fridge. It is wired to the fridge light.

It stops the icing of the fins and evens out the temp from top to bottom in the fridge.

I was wondering if I would get the same benefit by installing a fan in the freezer. I could run a wire from the same light, through a hole between the fridge and the freezer. There is currently about an 8-10 degree difference between the top of the freezer and the bottom of the freezer. I would like to smooth out the temps.

Are you still using the absorption system? JC Refrigeration installed a 12 vdc cooling unit in place of my absorption unit. I seem to be getting about 2 degrees in the freezer early in the morning. During the 90 degree heat of the day, I get about 5-6 degrees. And, that is in the top of the freezer where the cold plates (tubes) are located.
