Adding Mineral Oil to Batteries

There have been many threads on this subject. I am a year into and have only added a small amount of water to one battery. That battery is located in the back of the drawer and got the end of the oil added.

I added oil to all 6 - of the 6 volt battery's. So far I have been happy with adding the mineral oil.

Going on five years with my house batteries. The chassis are AGM's
Add water two, maybe three times per year. Battery bay stays clean and the cables do not have any corrosion.

Good to know. I have a hard time seeing the water level in the batteries at the back of the tray. How much mineral oil do you add to each cell? Would this affect your battery warranty?

On a 6V battery, add 3-4 oz per cell. As for warranty, I can't answer that.

Also, if you are going to add oil, wait until the water level is low enough to accommodate the oil. Do Not remove any Electrolyte to add the oil.

I did that in 2004 to our 4 U-2200 Interstate batteries in the '02 DSDP. The batteries lasted another 8 years and there was no corrosion in the bay. In fact there was less corrosion after 12 years than our 2000 DSDP had after two without the oil.

Replaced the 4 8D house batteries a few months ago and have the mineral oil standing by to add when the levels drop enough.

I doubt it will affect battery warranty. Interstate Battery sells an additive to reduce/prevent out-gassing with new batteries.

I doubt it will affect battery warranty. The local Interstate Battery store sells such an additive to reduce/prevent out-gassing with new batteries.

Based upon what I am learning, I will add mineral oil (to a charged battery when the electrolyte level is low) and install the Pro-fill system (so I don't have to borrow DW's compact mirror to see the cells on the batteries way on the inside on the battery tray...that won't slide out far enough 👺👺👺👺&#128122. Anyone know if the 2015 Ventana wet cells (in the house) are 2.7" or 3.3" apart? My coach is at the storage facility.

Here are my 4 U-2200 batteries from the '02 Dutch Star after a couple years with mineral oil in them and never having been cleaned. Still had the original hold down straps after 13 years too.

At 65 yrs old...I still learn new stuff every day 👍. Mineral oil is definitely something that I will do.

You could always ask Exide or any of the major brands what they think of the idea and whether they will honour their warranty.
