Quick question, if i try and use the gas part of the hot water every 2-4 weeks should that keep stuff from getting in there? I have never had that issue in my keystone in 6-7 years..

The guy at the hardware store sold me this little kit with lots of flimsy little wires for orifice cleaning, maybe those are for home hot water heaters?

90% sure the orifice was fine and the only problem was the big spiderweb in the burner tube

As soon as we get a calm wind day- if we ever get one... i will try to set the air adjustment but not using it now, i can use electric no problem

Couple of comments to the above -

He probably sold you a set of welding torch tip cleaners. If the are all contained in a case like a set of Allen wrenches can be, then those wires are really files.

There are critters that will build a nest in orifices. Happens to patio heaters all the time (and is 99% of the reason people have problems with patio heaters). They do require cleaning out, and doing so can be both tedious and frustrating. Blowing out, starting from “outside in” (so to speak) is the better approach.
If your going to poke through it, use a plastic wire such as found that hold clothing tags on new clothes.

All the previous tips and advice are great. I will leave you with the knowledge that your Atwood WH is no longer being made, so treat it well. Replacement repair parts are still available.

Atwood was bought by Dometic and Dometic "redesigned" the Atwood line so that it's no longer a direct replacement. It's my understanding that Suburban has made a clone for the old Atwood and may fit.

Orifices......

SOAK in alcohol then air dry (no poking ANYTHING or using Hi Air Pressure)
'Hole' is a laser drilled metered orifice that allows the proper amount of gas flow matched to burner design

Spreader Plate on end of burner tube must be parallel to end of tube to properly disperse gas/air mixture

Burner tube needs to be 'aligned' with gas valve so flow thru orifice is directed down the center of burner tube. If not the gas will bounce off the sidewall and not properly pull air in/mix with the air

Air shuttle ----1/4 open is standard setting
Flame should be Blue with 'slight' roar

Spider webs are tough to dislodge/remove with just air pressure
Burner tube.....small bottle brush
Combustion/exhaust tube........push wire thru/out exhaust---tie rag to wire then pull back thru 'U' tube doing a 'chimney sweep'

Spiders LOVE propane....folks say a small dog flea collar laid in water heater compartment helps keep them away
*I haven't tried it...I prefer to USE mine which keeps them away
Routine 'housekeeping' also works

All great info, thanks everyone

Unfortunately probably closing the trailer up for a few months starting tomorrow but I'll try to get the flame adjusted right tomorrow if we don't have bad wind

I really hope there are not more spider webs in 10 weeks when i get back!!!
At least I know what to do lol
