I installed the amish unit. The only problem I have had is that when I am in hot temps, the cooling is reduced. i have concluded this is due to lack of sufficient air flow. The fans supplied with the amish unit are not kicking on. I have one squirrel fan on the lower outside vent that i got from Paul at ARP. i am installing an additional fan on the roof vent this week.

When we were in Vegas last week, the fridge could not keep up with the 105 temps. Now in San Diego, I had to turn the fridge temp down due to stuff freezing. So, just make sure the fans are working to insure plenty of air flow behind the unit and you should be happy. Also, pick up an ARP controller from Paul.

Thanks, Jake21. How old is your Pikes (Amish) replacement cooling unit?

I installed another fan at the roof Nice that i didn't need to pull the fridge to do it. Cooling is MUCH improved. Setting is on 7 and my beer is nearly icy.

Paul at ARP sells squirrel fans. I zip tied one to the inside of the lower access panel on the side of the MH. The one I installed two days ago went on top. I pulled the roof vent cover, then took the housing off. (Glad I did as the dicor was really old and needed replacing anyway). Then I dropped the wires for the fan behind the fridge and down to the lower access area. I mounted the fan at the roof line, wired it up and all was good. Re dicored the roof housing and installed the cover. Cold and I mean really cold beer. I don't have pics but go to the ARP website and he has plenty of info on installing fans.

Thanks for the input. The fan idea is very interesting. They are putting a Norcold unit in the refrigerator this week so we should be back in business, but adding a fan sounds like a great idea so I will probably add one when I get it back. I let my shop decide on which unit (they do both) and he picked a factory unit. I do have a maintenance plan so that may have influenced his decision, but I did not ask.

I highly recommend the ARP controller with fan option as an add on.

2 years now and the Amish unit works great! Freezer is at 2 degrees and Fridge is at 34 degrees at the #5 setting. The ARP with the defrost override works great. We are very happy with the way things now work!

Where are you taping into for power to run the fan

Off the ARP controller. It has a wire for the fan power. The ARP gets 12v from the original 12V for the fridge. The ARP then sends power to the fridge through one wire, and also power to the fans from another wire. There are temp sensors that turn both wires on and off. Look at ARP Controller website for the ARP with fan control.

And that will still turn the fan on when operating on lp
