We've got a 1974 coach and will be upgrading in the future to lithium batteries. We started to install equipment with that in mind a couple of years ago and selected a solar charge controller that can be programmed to charge lithium batteries.

When I wanted to connect the chassis alternator to charge the house bank, I used a DC-to-DC charger. I went with one from Sterling that can be programmed for the lithium charge parameters. It serves to isolate the battery banks and prevents the house from discharging the chassis batteries, but the main reason I went with the DC-to-DC charger is that it's a true smart charger and will provide the house batteries with the charge voltage they need independently from what the chassis voltage regulator is doing.
