Cool Aqua Hot problem

My Aqua hot will heat up with burner running, get maybe 3 minutes of hot water, starts getting cold. If you shut the water off you can hot water back for another 3 minutes in less than 1 minute.

Your tempering (mixing valve) may need to be rebuild.

The mixing valve should be set so that the hot water temp in the coach is approx 120 degrees. The tempering valve is a type of wax valve that attempts to keep the water temp exiting the valve at the same level.

Of course the hot water input to the valve has to stay at a certain level. The limitations of the AquaHot when running the diesel burner is that it should raise the water temperature by 55 degrees above the cold water coming in at a rate not to exceed 1 1/2 gal per minute.

Sometimes turning the adjustment knob on the tempering (mixing valve) all the way in and out then returning to the original set position will get it working correctly again.

Welcome to irv2.
The QT's link 1 & 2 has all the heater information about 1/4 way down and make sure the shower outside if you have one, faucets are turned off.

When my AH did this it was a stir pump failure. Ordered a new HD stir pump from Roger Berke and that fixed the problem. If you have a digital thremocouple you can check the water temp into and exiting the stir pump. My stir pump motor ran but the pump impeller had died. Also, if you have the Honeywell mixing valve, they can be disassembled and cleaned with CLR. Did mine now it works great.

There are a few reasons why you are experiencing this problem with your Aqua-Hot.

It also depends on what model number AH unit you own.

If you are a member of Roger Berke's Hydronic-Heating Forum then ask him for what are the proper trouble-shooting steps to try first. If you are NOT a member then I would STRONGLY suggest you join.

Forum Rv Hydronic Heater Repair - Welcome

I would follow his expert advice.

Thanks, that gives me some where to start, Holiday World of Houston just worked on the Aqua-Hot, and just changed out the level switch.
